A birthday boy booked the table through Top Table for 12 of us and therefore received a 50% discount. I thought ‘quid’s in!’. However, little did we know that this would be one of the most sickening displays of what was essentially daylight robbery I have ever seen. Twelve of us at the table are members of a small food appreciation group called ‘world food club’ and are therefore fairly experienced in the delights of dining out. This experience however was no delight as I shall explain. Ushered into the restaurant we were placed on the ‘traditional’ floor seating arrangements accustomed by the Moroccan people. Definatley not traditional seating...if they were the whole Moroccan race would be crippled with back pain! A polite waiter recommended (or rather tricked as it now appears) that we all go for the set menu so to receive larger portions and a greater variety. Sitting, rather uncomfortably for what was 20 minutes the dishes arrived. The food looked good (but this may have been due to the low lighting in the room, one of the oldest tricks in the book!), but every dish was extremely bland, not normal for Moroccan or any good food! There was a single ‘childlike’ portion of rice and 1 or 2 small dishes and one measly distgusting sweet each, which was either a miscalculation of simple maths (I suspect not!) or a blatant attempt to rob us, not what the set menu stated. Scattering the dishes around the table was yet another trick up the sleeve of the sneaky Souk so we wouldn’t realise what was going on. The bill came to £26 pound each, including 50% off, a service charge for pleasure of ripping us off and 11 pounds for tap water! Although the birthday boy went to Oxford and is arguably one of the most refined people I know he should know its common practice to check various review sites as the general consensus on the internet is that Souk Medina is a ‘tourist trap’ with ‘portions barely big enough to feed a North African goat’. Sorry lesson learnt!
I’ve lived in London for 4 years and I can safely say that Souk Medina ranks as the single worst culinary experience I have ever had in the city. I struggle to articulate just how disgusted I was with this overpriced temple to mediocrity. 12 of us went for a friends birthday last Friday and on arrival we were rapidly coaxed into ordering a set menu which supposedly included a “range of north African inspired” dishes which we could share between us. The food we were presented with amounted to nothing more than a couple of dishes of chick peas and some stale cous cous. It was bland, cold and the portions were barely big enough to feed a North African goat let alone a party of 12. The terrible food could possibly have been forgiven had it carried a lower price tag but no… The clowns at Souk Medina charged us £26 per person including a charge for tap water we didn’t even order and this supposedly included a 50% discount we had through TopTable!Souk Medina is the sort of place that gives the UK a bad name for food amongst visiting tourists, it’s an utter disgrace and unless your idea of a good night out is withdrawing money from the cash machine and burning it I advise you never to set foot in there.
were there to celebrate my friends birthday. booked table vor 12 and got table for 10. our service was horrible. we got a waitress called shadia, she brought us two times the wrong drinks and forgot about our main course. we use to come a lot of time and it was really good, but this time the waitress was really bad
TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can not express how terrible an experinence I had at this restaurant on Saturday. The waiting staff were rude, we were served our mains 2 minutes after our starter and when we asked that they bring the food back we were told no! The food was therefore left on the table next to ours to get cold under the AC unit. We ordered the set menu but didn't receive all the dishes - the waitress appeared with the chip and pin machine while we were still eating and hadn't even considered gettingthe bill. I have eaten at Souk many times before but i would 100% discourage anyone from going there now. We were planning our work Xmas party there this year but that will not be happening now! DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was nothing that I enjoyed in this restaurant; they first got our order wrong as my friend and I ordered the chicken platter for two but instead we got fish. Yuck! The chick peas, hummus, cous cous some aubergine thingy was so tasteless.....I couldn't believe people have to pay for this!
The atmosphere wasn't too bad but don't go there if you're hungry as you'll come out hungrier!
The setting is nice and so is the belly dancing.
Food is very disappointing as are the prices. Service was awful too.
Stick to some cocktails and starters and have dinner somewhere else
We went to Souk Medina ahead of going to the theatre. Sadly, due to traffic problems we had limited time at the restaurant. We pointd this out to the staff and they could not have been more helpful. The food was excellent, the service was first class, and we will go there again, when we can spend a lot more time enjoying the atmosphere, the excellent food (both trying the food for the first time) and the brilliant service. Have already recommended it to several friends.
We wanted to go somewhere different with good food and this restaurant was suggested - well I do not really know where to start - when we arrived we were seated in the back area of the restaurant - one had to duck in certain parts of the restaurant in order to get anywhere - it was a bit like a dungeon more than an exotic Moroccan liar.
We eventually were shown our table - in the corner of the restaurant in some sort of what can only be described as a cupboard - a group of 5 relatively tall and medium height guys - we were almost crawling to get to the table - we put all this down to the 'atmosphere'.
The service - well there is not much I can say about it as it was almost non existent. Very very slow and not the friendliest.Eventually we settled for some Moroccan wine - ugh! It was not good - go for something you know when you go here.
The Food - we all went for the set menu which was, Houmous (not very good one - Tescos is much better and cheaper), some boiled chick peas, some sort of Potato stew with spices, some dry lamb Tagine, some chicken that was OK and stuffed vine leaves.
All in all not very much exciting and certainly not recommended.I really do not know where the good reviews came from for this restaurant.
Will not go back here again - there are many much better restaurants in London where your money can be better spent.
6 of us dined here last week. Oh my god....this place is fab!!
The food was so tasty and the richness and originality of the flavours was to die for without being too overpowering!!
We ordered the set menu where the food keeps coming out until you can eat no more. The lamb dish was soooo flavoursome as was the spinach.
The timing between the entree and main dishes was good giving just enough time for the food to settle.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very quiet and tranquil which is just what we needed for a mid week meal.
And using our Taste London card we saved a whopping £63 on our bill so it ended up being a little over £22 each for a 3 course meal (baklava desert) with a couple of drinks each and this included the service charge.
Service was great and nothing was a hassle. Staff dressed in theme also made a nice touch to the evening.
Didn't try the house wines but the beer seemed to be going down well! Well done Souk......a great night out with a delighfully tasty and affordable meal! Will definately be back! Thanks!

The food was Brilliant !Staff was fantastic , very warm, caring and attentive !The ambiance is perfect for any ocassion with a fantastic private room for intimate parties
The Manager is a very resonable and honest man , You can rest assured you are paying for quality food in an amazing location with a very resonable price tag ! AKSHAY
Me and my girlfriend went there for Valentines day and the food was great along with the atmosphere but the service was absolutley terrible. Before ordering the food we asked for some drinks and the waitress said she would be right back and 10 minutes later we had to ask again, the food came pretty quick but took a while to clear it away for the next course. With the dessert we ordered a frozen mint tea and an arabic coffee which we had to ask for 3 time before getting up and going to find out where it was 35 mins later only to be told the coffee machine wasnt working (well thanks for telling us and seeing if we wanted something else) and about 10 mins after that the other drink came.
I was going to hire a room there for 30 people for my birthday but after that service for only 2 people you have got to be kidding. (Souk Bazaar)
Went with a party of 8 for my granddaughters 21st birthday,
I thought the food was appalling ,it looked as if it could do with a good clean. No wonder the lighting is bad ,think you would get a shock
if we saw it it in the light,I couldent give it any stars ,Worse restaurant
i have been to in my life ,Mrs V maynard
The food is best left alone!
Belly dancer gives it her best and the staff are friendly enough. I would recommend it as a venue for pre drinks as the seating arrangements down stairs are a little odd in that you have benches facing one another, which with a large group makes talking to those other than beside you difficult as you start to shout over others conversations to be heard above the music and other people.
And do not go for the house white, it must be nearly on its way to being vinegar.
To sum it up , do not even bother!
The food is horrendous ... a norht African cuisine , I don't think so!! I had better humous from Tesco..
It's quite lucky that the lights in restaurant are dimmed , so to create a 'cosy' atmosphere, at least you can't see how dirty the place is.. after we've been given our plates and cutlery , we could easily see what a person before us had for dinner... honestly if you can't provide a decent food, at least make an effort in keeping up the cleanliness...
They're lucky they hired the belly dancer to entertain us, otherwise it'd be a complete waste of time and money..
Giving one star and that goes to the belly dancer..
Walked past it a few times looked greatOnce inside the food was bland, and we didn't finish a couple of dishes as we weren't really sure what we were eating and some of it was gritty.Service was slow even though it was early in the evening and virtually dead, there were more people coming in as we left.
Last visited Souk around 2004, seriously gone downhill since. The service was terrible, slow and charged for drinks that they forgot to bring. The food was tasteless compared to a few years ago. The meat was tough and fatty with awful stock. This was a Saturday and it was half full in comparison to 2004 when you would be lucky to get a seat. Obviously other customers had noticed the difference too. I was completely gutted as I remembered this place to be superb. The prices are high considering the low quality. In 2004 I would have rated this a 9.
We have been to Souk on two occasions and agree that the food and atmosphere are great. Though during our last visit our experience was let down by the waitresses standing directly beside our table leaving us with no privacy at all, It felt like a teacher standing behind your chair at school. Adding to our frustration one of the waitresses continued to make clicking noises with her pen...I can't describe how annoying that was. I appreciate they need to check at what stage everyone's meal is, though this surely can be done intermittently. On the whole though the food came fast and we all enjoyed it. I'll definitely go there again as long as they give us the privacy and respect you would expect at any good restaurant.
I thought the Souk Medina was absolutly fantastic! I'm going to be having my birthday there this year! The service was fabulous, the waiter was attentive and fun. There was a belly dancer, which picked up the vibe, and got everyone clapping and cheering too. The food was spectacular, I would definitely recommend the glazed carrots, they are amazing. I don't even like cooked carrots, but they were goood!
Their mojito, capriani and Ali Baba cocktails are all really good, and the shisha of course is funky. I went here on my first date, and it was a great relaxing, chilled out place, and quite romantic too. I would recommend Souk Medina strongly to everyone.
I visited Souk Medina with eight of my friends. We were absolutely appalled at the service. Although we had booked for 8pm, we were continuously fobbed off by staff until we were finally seated at 8.30. We then had to resort to writing our orders on a napkin and handing it to the waiter to be served.
We were ravenous by the time the food arrived, which may have made the food taste good. However, we were joined by a uninvited guest - a cockroach climbing up the wall! When we reported this to staff, they reacted in a blase way and one of the waiters even admitted that they had special contacts at pest control. The service was shocking, the cockroach was disgusting. Overall, Souk Medina was a disaster.
