SBH is the best, every occasion that we are there it has been a very cheerful experience. The staff are incredibly friendly and the food is great, they are currently undergoing a revamp so i cant wait to see SBH in the reopening! Everyone must go!
This Venue is large and souless. The food was your average fair but the whole experience of dining is amusing to say the least. Try others.
We were looking for a great place to eat local to where I live that could accommodate a large group as we were 30+ heads. I have been here before and the food was good, this time around the food and service was excellent especially as we had a large group.
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an excellent curry night out.
I love going to Brick lane, after waltzing around the clubs and working up an appetite me and my friends always end up going to Standard Balti House! We say were going to try something new, (which we have done in the past) everyone always opts for the Standard, the food is tasty and always served hot.the restaurant is spacious and the staff are incredibly friendly, they are polite and always have a smile for everyone. I have also taken many family and friends from out of town to this restaurant, and it has always been a pleasant experience for all, over all very very pleased, that's why I keep going!!!
Very good restaurant on a crowded Lane. The food was good, the price reasonable and the service on the better side. Will go back
I live very close to Brick Lane, so i have had the good fortune to be able to try most of the curry houses in the neighborhood. A friend recommended Standard Balti House, and after having dinner there with some friends, I have not gone to any other restaurant when I get the craving for a good curry. There is no need to keep searching when you have found what you're looking for.Standard Balti House is that good, and just as importantly, it's CONSISTENTLY good.
I am in a wheelchair, so accessibility is important to me. There is a slight lip at the door, but the staff is friendly and always willing and available to assist. The loo is not accessible, unfortunately, but more importantly to me, the interior of the restaurant is spacious (especially compared to the typical curry house) and with so much room I don't have to worry about finding a space at a table, or having my meal interrupted by people repeatedly bumping into my wheelchair. The atmosphere is pleasing, and the service is always good.
The food is what brings me back though, and SBH has never failed to live up to my expectations. We have taken friends to the SBH when company came to town, and every single time we've done so our guests have raved about the food.My personal favorites are the chicken vindaloo, the takha daal, and the paratha naan.I don't recommend the phal, but everything else on the menu is delicious. If you're looking for a good curry in a restaurant that doesn't pack the customers in so close that everyone is bumping into one another, then the Standard Balti House is the best place on all of Brick Lane
I live just off Brick Lane, so my wife and I have had the opportunity to scout the available curry houses and explore the wonderful culinary experiences available to us here in East London.I like to think of ourselves as adventurous types, but i have to admit that after trying the Standard Balti House, we quit exploring, stopped trying other places and have ever since gone straight to the Standard Balti House whenever we want a curry on Brick lane. It's that good, and it's that reliable.
To sum it up, SBH offers CONSISTENTLY good food at affordable prices in a spacious (especially for Brick Lane with its crowded curry houses), friendly atmosphere. We have taken several friends (some famous) to SBH since we discovered this treasure, and in each ad every case, they have remarked on the quality of the food, and have told us how much they enjoyed the experience. That's damn handy, to have a good curry restaurant that you can count on to serve consistently excellent food, whether you are with one person or ten.Price per person per meal is usually around £20.00, with drinks. The service is good and the food is remarkable. I like the vindaloo, the tarkha dahl, and the paratha naaan
My friends and I make it a personal mission to try to find the best curry houses available in London.
After Tayyabs became so highly popular as to require queueing for at least 2 hours we decided to give Brick Lane another go after a few disappointing experiences.
Standard Balti house is a great place to get some honest, tasty curry. It's not world beating - but I haven't yet found a Brick Lane curry that is.
It is, however, friendly, consistent, always piping hot, and always good value for money.
I especially recommend the Chicken Rezala and Sylheti Dhal - both classic Standard Balti House dishes.
Been to the Standard Balti House a few times. The food's pretty tasty and there's plenty of choice.
My only complaint with the Standard Balti is that the service can be a bit slow. Other than that, this is a good little Indian place.
