Wow as i return from a party booked at Takari I must write a note of thanks to the takari team, To the chef thank you for the most delicious selection of indian food that I have had for years. The curries were all so tasty and just perfect in every way.
Also the waiters you guys are truly awsome you did so well I have nothing but praise for you.
All the dishes were just amazing.
Takari was an excellent choice for an early Saturday evening dinner. The food and service were great and I would definitely recomme
Decided to go to this Indian place to try something new. Read a few impressive reviews before going. Probably the worst Indian restaurant that I have been to. As we sat down to order, I felt like I was sitting in the sewers, surrounded by the largest flys I have seen. This was not a case of just one fly but probably a total of 10 flys. My appetite was lost even before ordering.
Secondly the dishes were small and over priced. When the food arrived it was lukewarm. Terrible experience, not to be repeated.
Our company went to Takari Covent Garden to celebrate our Xmas party the place always has a good vibe and buzz. but mostly consistently good food, had a great time.
Amazing menu, really special food and nice atmosphere. Interesting food combinations.
I agree with the user before, this was an awful restaurant to dine in. The manager was extremely rude and certainly needs a lesson in customer services!! I shall not return, and would recommend any of the other Indian restaurants in the area over this one.
Apart from the friendly waiters, Takari was an appalling restaurant to dine at. The food was over priced, it cost £50 for the pair of us after only ordering one veg starter, 2 main veg curries, 2 naan's and 2 kingfisher beers. The portions were tiny but very heavy and unsatisfying. There was no garnishing on the food. A mixed vegetable platter consisted of a poorly made samosa, an onion bhaji and some sort of a daal bhajia which was seeping with oil...definitely not something that should be called a 'platter'. I would not recommend dining at this sub par venue.
Went to Takari in Covent Garden area last night for a friend's birthday. The food and service was really great and highly recommend this restaurant.
Do not go to Takari. Do not go to Takari. Do not go to Takari. Do not go to Takari. I went along expecting to enjoy a lovely Indian meal, what I received instead was something I have never ever experienced in a restaurant and hope to never again. We did not get off to a good start, the greeting was lukewarm at best, in fact from the moment we walked into the restaurant we felt as if we were actually in the way and an annoyance. The service although quick, was unfriendly and unhelpful. I was served quite possibly the worst gin and tonic I've ever had in my life and on trying to order champagne as we were celebrating, we were told they did not have the bottle we requested, which they made no apologies for. When the food came along it was clear that it had been sitting on a hot plate somewhere as there was a thick drying film over the top of the what can only be described as mediocre passanda sauce. Anyway, the best bit is about the come.! I started to eat the passanda and I bit into something hard, which turned out to be a broken piece of porcelain of some description about 1cm in length! I called the waiter over and not only did he make no apologies but he then went on to accuse me of planting the offending article myself in order to get free food! He actually called me a liar to my face. We obviously could not stay there after this, so went to leave, the manager grabbed my arm and insisted I pay for the food which I did minus the mediocre passanda. It was a situation that could so easily of been diffused by the waiter apologising and offering a drink on the house or free main course, instead he called me a liar to my face and ruined a perfectly lovely evening.
Great meal well worth the money. Takari in covent garden has a certain wow factor to it's food. The jungle chicken was delicious and full of aroma that tantalise your taste buds. I had the mango lassi to wash it all down. It's genuine Indian food without pretense. My partner really enjoyed him self with the vindaloo. Ha ha. Excellent restaurant with fabulous staff very bollywood. You will really enjoy the place
I'm from malaysia and I can say this restaurant is one of the best Indian I have had on my visit to the UK
15 people served within 45minutes. All the food was delicious and hot! Brilliant service, nothing was too much trouble and the 50% off between 4-7pm was awesome! Would definitely recommend the venue for private parties - best I have experienced in London to date. Wholeheartedly recommend them. G
excellent food, service was very good will be back soon.
Takari in Govent Garden has a great buzz coupled with attentive but not overly pushy staff. Its slightly more relaxed/intimate in feel than its sister restaurant Takari Willesden, and the food is to the same high quality of taste and presentation. We went for my fiance's birthday on the 50% off food offer. We both tried some amazing seafood starters (the seafood Platter was particularly good) and out mains (Honey Lushious) were excellent. For any occasion, I'd recommend
went to takari for my birthday dinner what can i say excellent dinner food was piping hot service was very good even thoe they were full house. best supprise was the marks and spencers birthday cake from the takari team nice touch....will be returning very soon
Takari was a excellent choice. my partner and I had really fantastic time. the service was friendly and the food was delicious. overall Takari did everything right. The restaurant looked absolutely beautiful. Service fantastic, Food wonderful, decor classy:))
We ate there last night it was beyond doubt the best Indian food we've ever eaten (and i work in Bradford!). The prune stuffed dough balls in a spiced cream sauce was superb. The staff were lovely, just on the right side of attentive, making the atmosphere very friendly for their customers. The wine wasn't cheap but the iced water was constantly topped up. They even agreed to have us back, despite not understanding our accent!
If I could give no stars I would. Visited as part of a group of 9. Was told to go to the restaurant across the road (even though we had a booking at the Takari!). Food took a long while to arrive and when it did it was luke warm, mild and stingy in portion. Waiters forgot who ordered what and took an aggressive tone when explaining the restaurant had run out of mushrooms (!). Bottles of beer overpriced at £6+ and waiter nearly barged into me as I came back from the toilet. Was not offered a desert menu and glad to get out of there. Strongly recommend people avoid!
I totaly disagree with jayefem review We went to Takari highwycombe on 18/10/2010 on a trip to my mums for my husband's 30th birthday and we loved it! Great service, very reasonable prices and fantastic dishes! We had the tiger prawns and the tandoori chicken skewers for starters, which were also lovely. A smart venue Would highly recommend based on the food, price, service and setting.
Takari has delivered a very desiarable venue to dine. I've been to there High Wycombe branch and both places have delivered a very high standard of food and service. The food was very nice. I would definitely recommend you try some of there signature dishes. Belive me you will not find them in your local (honey licious) it's a cross between chicken korma and mango chicken. Very nice pleasant restaurant.
On a short break to London we pre-booked takari restaurant. A very attentive waiter helped us with the menu and My wife. After asking if we had any particular food dislikes or allergies, we were served a series of 8 small "mystery" courses showcasing the chef's talents, every one of which was an absolute delight, having astonishing flavour. Each plate was presented with great flair, humour and theatricality. A great evening.
Takari was a really good find. It has a great location at the foot of the theatre land, and a really cosy atmosphere. The service was very attentive and helpful and the food was excellent, especially the Jungle Curry. I normally prefer Vindaloo but in this case the quality and lightness of the rice made me enjoy the Jungle Curry and maki even more, and the fish was extremely fresh as I would have expected. All in all a really good place to go for quality Indian food!
We had a dozen mixed starters to start - they were all delicious but don't ask us which ones were the best because we couldn't tell but that's our ignorance :-) We're going back time and time again - the food was great, the waiters attentive, but not overly and really funny, the place was busy but not rammed and the cost was pleasently surprising. Can't recommend it highly enough
We visited Takari in Covent Gardens, London for a pre-theatre dinner. I never review resturants but this was by far one on the nicest places I have ever eaten at. The ambience is excellent, food is first class and the service is second to none. The staff couldn't do enough to make our meal enjoyable and the resturant itself (including the toilets) was absolutely gorgeous. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to eat in the area, but it is pricey without the 50% discount.?
The food tasted like it was prepared in India and transported to my table via the Star trek Transporter. It was fresh and very very tasty. Handi gosht ( i think that's how its spelt) was truly amazing. the restaurant was pretty much packed for a Thursday night but we got a table after a little waiting. The waiters were delightful and service was very nice and friendly.
The food is really original and very tasty. I ordered the honey chicken it was perfect for me as I like my curries mild. I have never had this particular dish ever. I asked the waiter who informed me that the chef has won awards back in india for his cooking expertise and creations. I have since tried in my local indian but they just dont know how. The service was polite and friendly. we all had a great time. I normally dont write like this but it was a really lovely evening with loved ones in such a great place.
well what can i say, went to a chinese in the area but was too packed and needed to queue up. it was pouring with rain so thought what else is around here, just a few doors away was this Takari place, seemed ok from the outside, plus they the tv on with Indian music videos
wasnt too packed, so we got a table pretty much instantly, they had the normal indian stuff, plus some traditional bangladeshi indian food, so instead of the chinese, we thought we try out the indian menu.
service was Excellent, the food was lovey, have to recommend the fish, pretty tasty. would recommend going back
Went with colleagues for a farewell party (17 guests in total). Avoid at all cost, the evening was nearly spoilt due to the bad food (very greasy), slow service and staff were ignorant. We had to wait for an hour for our starters and 45 mins for our main course. One of the staff managed to poor some curry over my colleagues hand and did not even apologies! They still wanted to charge us a 12% service charge, which we refused to pay! Don't go near Takari. A very unhappy customer
Not far off double the price of any other Indian restaurant I've ever been to (£11 for a chicken vindaloo is pushing it even for West End prices), with surly staff to boot.
I'd originally booked a table for 8 and had amended this 48hrs prior to a table for 9. When we arrived as a nonet the gentleman who greeted us was most displeased; this set the tone for the rest of the evening.
We were shepherded to the poorly lit back room that was devoid of any atmosphere and ordered, only to be missing a meal from our original order. When it came to pay, the card machine didn't work and we were ordered to get money from a cash machine round the corner (we held our nerve until the machine finally worked!).
Not all bad though, the food was nice enough; but only as good as any other run-of-the-mill high street outlet and not enough to improve what was an all-round very poor dining experience.
There are much friendlier, tastier, cheaper options, away from this dingy corner of Drury Lane.
I'm surprised that the reviews for this restaurant are so overwhelmingly positive. It feels much more like a local high street Indian restaurant than a high class West End restaurant (as the rating suggests). It's a small place, with limited ambience at best. The food is of an acceptable standard, undeniably, but the cost is high for what you get. We used a 50% off [food] voucher but the staff were quite awkward about what could and could not be ordered (we had to buy starters, for example, which we'd normally have avoided in preference to numerous sides and breads etc). Even with that discount, the price was higher than it ought to have been. As an aside, the toilets were in a terrible state of disrepair. I was embarrassed at having selected this restaurant and won't go again.
We always have a great meal at Takari in Govent Garden. The ambiance is chic without being pretentious, the music is buzzing but not too loud, and the food is consistently delicious. There is a great selection of classic Asian dishes plus some inspired off-the-wall additions which add excitement to each experience. Prices are not bad for London but on the Top Table 50% offer they become very reasonable indeed, leaving more room in the budget for some of Takaris fantastic cocktails. Great for any occasion

Takari is an open diner with v high ceilings, generous walking space & a seating area by the bar that is comfortable & well placed. The staff were suitably attired, possessing the same pleasant manner indicative Gr8 atmosphere. The menu was limited but delicious. My wife and I shared veg and non veg starter, tasty on both counts. I had a succulent chicken main that was huge in size. Wife had prawn dish that was tasty but nt enough lol Dessert consisted of juicy fresh fruits.
My husband and I ate at Takari London in Govent Garden on Thursday evening. The food and service were great. Takari is one of the few Indian restaurants we have found that actually serves spicy curry! Absolutely delicious lamb rogan josh! Excellent value with the Toptable discount. Will definitely return.
Takari- probably one of the best indian places in the Covent Garden area. Good food, awesome decor, staff are pretty friendly. You get what you pay for!Intimate dinner for two, out with friends or group party, it would work.
The food at Takari was yummy, the service was very good. i would go backa dn i would recommend it. AB
Another great visit to Takari London. We had the 50% offer which was excellent as always - the sagwalla especially. The staff were accommodating and all in all we had a great night. Once you add drinks into the equasion this ends up not being a particularly cheap night but then again, no-one forced me to order cocktails! We'll be back!
Went to Takari restaurant for a special occasion and the staff were extremely helpful in fulfilling our needs. We brought balloons and confetti for the table and staff were only too happy to accommodate our requests. The food was lovely and the set menu deal we got through toptable was very reasonable. I would definitely recommend Takari to others.
Took two friends to dinner - very busy but it was snow and ice everywhere outside. Used to go fairly frequently when it first opened but not for three-four years. Pretty much as I remembered, nice decor with a modern twist , food as good as before and service excellent. good value but , as elsewhere
We'd heard good things about Takari Restaurant, and we weren't disappointed. The food was lovely, really nicely displayed, and tasted gorgeous (I had the duck, which was very tasty), however we were taking advantage of the 25% discount offer, which meant I paid £88 for the meal instead of £110. Staff were very attentive and sweet,
