I used to frequent Ten Ten Tei because the food is great; however, an incident took place a couple of weeks ago which made me change my mind about going back ever again! It was the last day of my friend's visit in London so I decided to surprise her by taking her to my favourite Japanese restaurant. I casually went in and asked for a table for 3 (my boyfriend was on his way in). We were told to wait at the sushi counter for a table to open up. I didn't think anything of it until I overheard the waitress tell the sushi chef that she didn't trust us! Of course, they were talking in Japanese thinking I didn't understand, but I little did she know that I speak the language fluently! My boyfriend eventually came in and we were directed to a table downstairs but I was fuming! I felt like I should have spoken up! What kind of service are they providing by talking behind customers' backs like that? I spotted the lady going into the ladies so I followed her and confronted her. I told her that she was rude and that if she wanted to talk about customers she should at least wait until they had left. I said all of this in Japanese thinking I could stun her. She wasn't in the least bit apologetic...she explained that a lot of customers come in and quote a larger number of people in order to get a bigger table. What sort of an excuse is this!? She didn't even apologise...in fact, when she came to serve us our sushi, she practically dropped the plate on the table! To make things worse, I overheard another waitress call a customer "fat and whiny"! I'm sorry, but if this isn't dispicable service, I don't know what is. I won't be going back to Ten Ten Tei again. It's a shame...the food was so yummy...

Ten Ten Tei is one of the worst Japanese restaurants in London. Bad service, bad food even though it is authentic. However, being authentic doesn't necessarily mean it's good.

This place is fantastic. A friend took me here the first time I ever ate Japanese food, and the fact that 90% of the clientele are Japanese... well, that tells its own story! The food is outstanding - melt-in-your-mouth teriyaki, just the right mix in the gyoshi. I highly recommend it. I don't eat sushi myself, but friends who I've dragged along have raved about it afterwards.

Well, well, well, what can I say? As a newbie to the world of sushi I have to say Ten Ten Tei was amazing. The atmosphere is nothing special, it has a ground and lower ground seating with wooden tables and chairs. But trust me when I went in I thought it was a bit drab but it gives it a very "local" and traditional feel to it with no fancy gimmicks and colours to lure you in. It gets very busy especially in the evenings but that is a very good sign for a sushi joint. It is jam packed with Japanese diners, as if the whole of the Japanese tourists end up eating in Ten Ten Tei. This to me was a good sign even before I started eating that the food HAD to be good! The staff are very hospitable but a lot of gesturing is required as english speaking is extremely limited but be adventurous!

The food is adequately priced as it's just unbelievable! It's so fresh , tender and moist as if the fish had just been killed, I wouldnt be surprised if it was wriggling on my plate! The sushi is amazing and so is the sashimi with good size meaty portions. My meal for two eating about 20-23 pieces of sushi came to around £38 with 2 glasses of red wine. If you go I reccommend the Tabiko Rolls, they are to DIE for!
