A stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly Circus, Terrace is an getaway from the commotion of the city.

The Venue
Set on a converted terrace that once housed a swimming pool, this hotel restaurant is enclosed by a curved glass ceiling that juts out from what was once an outside wall, with charismatic windows that look into the building. The venue is a split level affair with a mix of lounge and chair seating and wooden floors and carpet whilst colourful abstract paintings adorn the walls.

The Atmosphere
As Terrace is set within a hotel, it draws in quite a diverse group of diners of all ages, from lone businessmen to couples to groups of friends. This gives the venue quite a cool and distant atmosphere. If you’re lucky enough to catch the DJ on Thursdays, you’ll be treated to some eclectic music that bridges genres from jazz to gypsy rhythms to Latino to French.

The Food
The Terrace is all about fine dining and offers a generous selection of steak, seafood and hearty dishes such as rabbit and fillet of beef tail. Vegetarian options are also available. For starters, the chestnut blinis are tasty but somewhat small for their £11.50 price tag – a tiny pancake sandwich, topped with crispy fresh greens and filled with wild mushrooms that offer a lovely delicate flavour. The quail selection (£12) is a more substantial option. Served on a bed of barley risotto which offers a pleasing texture while the pieces of quail are rich in flavour.

For mains, the loin venison is so soft you can carve through the meat as though it’s butter while the flavours are gently gamey without being too overpowering. The pan fried Norwegian crab is a tower of hefty pieces of crab flesh that are bursting with an intense seafood flavour. The dish is served with a bouillabaisse sauce that offers more of the same powerful seafood taste. Mains range between around £16 to £25.

The selection of homemade ice creams and sorbet for dessert is presented beautifully as an artist’s palette (a crispy wafer-like base) with a variety of paints (the scoops of ice cream). The dessert is superbly creamy with flavours such as coffee and strawberry while dainty fresh berries add a touch of freshness to the dish. The hot whiskey chocolate fondant is served hot and has a sweet, gooey centre. Desserts are around £7.50 each.

The Drink
Bottles of wine start at around £25 and there’s a hefty selection to choose from. Kleine Zalze, the South African chenin blanc is a full-bodied white that offers a strong, crisp flavour and is a nice accompaniment with seafood dishes. For something a bit different, try sipping on a shot of champagne mixed with a generous drizzle of hot honey.

The Last Word
Terrace is a spacious modern restaurant located in the heart of the city. Top notch food served in a unique London venue.
