We went here last Saturday and were shocked by the service! Some of the staff were pleasant but the waitress who served us was terrible. She did not stop hovering around our table and rushed us when taking the order which we had to repeat three times. I got white wine when I ordered red wine then they brought out one starter and my boyfriend's starter was served about 5 minutes later. The standard of food was okay but the Thai Market restaurant accross the road charges around the same and serves much better food. After all that the waitress had the cheek to ask if we didn't want to leave a tip for the staff! We will not be returning.
I am so incensed by the poor quality of service that this restaurant offers that I am writing this review literally upon return.
Throughout the night the service staff hovered over our table (when not engaged) so close I almost felt obliged to offer them a seat next to me if it wasn't such an aggressive and stressful atmosphere.
The starters were fine on the whole bar the Tom Yum soup which didn't even contain lemongrass!
The mains were pretty average tasting and not really worth the price they charged (in our case it was red curry with chicken and beef with chili and basil).
The real nadir of the night was reached, however, upon production of the bill. The restaurant charges 10% service on top of your bill regardless. This amounted to £5, but they had the bare-faced cheek not to return with my change. In fact, the waitress who served us returned to the room and served a different table and did not even bother to look at us.
When I actually got mad enough to ask for my change, I was greeted with a blank expression as if there was surprised I didn't want to give a tip with the tip they'd already taken. The most egregious part was when they did give me my change it was all in 10 pence pieces.
I could care less about service in most restaurants but this was unacceptable and I would never dine here again and considering the average food and similar prices to other Thai establishments would advise you to do the same.
Officially the worst lunch ever!!
Rude staff
Random menu offerings and 'special offers' that don't include you when you ask
Overly pricey
Included service charge within bill despite the fact that service was dreadful
Demanded cash only when we got our bill with no forewarning when we sat down
We noticed two separate customers (who managed to order a special offer) remove the meat from their burgers and did not eat
Totally average Thai food, I've had better from the supermarket
Avoid avoid avoid!
For only a couple of quid you can find copious well made treats to fill you up among the stalls outside - a far superior option!
We went there today because we saw a poster outside advertising breakfast for £3.99. The breakfast was one of the worst we have ever had with the eggs undercooked and the mushrooms cold and not cooked at all and the bread not tasting fresh. When we received the bill it was £15.40 for two breakfasts and they included the tip in the bill when we asked why we got charged £7 for the breakfast rather than £3.99 we were told that there was a special offer and it ran out. Staff were rude and insisted that it said in the poster that the offer is until 12. We felt like we were scammed and ended up paying £15.40 for two terrible breakfasts AVOID THIS PLACE I would rate it 0 if you want to have a nice meal and get value for your money. We normally go to Mike's cafe two streets down off Portobello Road but they do tend to be very busy on weekends as they serve great food.
In brief, outstanding food, bit of a buzz about the place, authentic food. Perfect addition to a stroll down portobello road. It's tightly packed, and the non-Thai food is poor (perhaps go somewhere else if you want something with chips?) but the Thai food was absolutely sensational.
Where should I start? Food is expensive and the quality and quantity ridiculously poor. Good thing I was not hungry if not I would have eaten my fingers after finishing the pat thai! The service was shocking. Unfriendly, stressful! They tried to take three times my friend's plate while she was still eating! Not the best condition for a nice diner with a friend. I will certainly never go back to Thai Garden and Grill.
The roof terrace was nice and cosy and perfect for an intimate evening with friends or a date. Their staff are very welcoming, friendly and attentive, ensuring not glass is left half full/empty. Even the food was served promptly and proficiently.
However, the quality of the food is, at best, average.
When you visit a Thai restaurant you expect something a little more, more exotic, more flavoursome and more imaginative.
The starters, Thai Fishcakes and Chicken Satay were not freshly prepared, but appeared to have come form the freezer. Nor did they appear to be home made.
The Mains were a little better, but the coconut rice lacked depth and the Jungle Curry missed that 'kick' that sets it aside from the red or green curries.
A great location but an opportunity to do more with the food is being missed here!
This was an absolutely amazing restaurant, fantastic location, lovely staff and a bargain.
Great for a romantic evening dinner. Will definately be going back.

if you haven't tried Thai food before it will be fine but if you had good one, don't go there never try grilled meat too much seasoning ,too much sweet, too tough meat kind waiters ,just disgusting food
Nice roof terrace overlooking the legendary Portobello Road here - not a bad place to dine at all.
