My partner and I really enjoyed eating here.
All of the food we ordered was very fresh and delicious.
The staff were friendly and helpful and it was fun chatting to the owner.
Will come back when I happen to be up in Camden again.
The best Vietnamese food I’ve come across so far! Having been to the pho cafe, I was very disappointed with its’ authenticity it was all very bland and didn’t represent the food I had tasted in Vietnam. Thankfully. I stumbled across this little gem a few weeks ago and I just keep on having to come back. I actually think I can make do with the kitchen at home. The pho here (traditional Vietnamese noodle soup) is amazing and the stock rivals with what I’ve tasted in Hanoi. The portions are big and the accompaniments are very fresh (coriander, mint, bean sprouts, chilli and lemon). And it doesn’t stop there, everything else I’ve had has never failed to impress me: the spring rolls (cha nem no.2 on the menu if I remember correctly!) are exceptional as well as the salted squid, crispy lamb, clay pot beef, vietnamese salad and sizzling monk fish. And what’s this I hear about a new bbq grilled menu?. I think I need to pay another visit. :p
I've lived in Camden for the past 10 years and this has been my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in all that time, the food was authentic, service fantastic, the owner helpful and chatty and I recommended the place to a lot of my friends who also had a similar experience.
However I'm horrified at how my favourite restaurant has changed beyond all recognition and now it's sadly lost one of its most loyal customers.
I haven't been there for around 6 months but decided to take my in-laws last Friday for a special treat. Straight away we noticed that the menu had changed and that all of our favourite dishes had gone, only to be replaced by generic choices such as "chicken curry with onions", I asked the waiter if the old dishes were still available but he was totally clueless so I tried to get the owner's attention. In stark contrast to every other time I've been there (probably about 120 times over the past 10 years) she refused to come over to the table and eventually blanked me with a wave of her hand as she returned to her counter. A bit shocked and disappointed at this we ordered anyway and waited for the food to arrive. All I can say is that the disappointment didn't end there; the curry looked like it came out of a jar with texture like tomato soup and a few chopped onions, peppers and bits of chicken floating about in it. The spicy Singapore noodles were burnt and the spring rolls were almost empty with thick soggy pastry, my wife’s soup was over salty and was pretty tasteless but spicy. Compared to all the previous times when we've left, congratulating ourselves once again with eating in the best Vietnamese restaurant around, it was very, very sad but nevertheless we decided to finish what we could and have a word with the owner as we left.
That's when they really lost my custom and we encountered the worst Customer Service on record.
We waited for the waiter to clear the table for 25 mins but nothing happened so we left the dirty plates and ve
Recently went here with my parents and I have say, to be perfectly honest, the food was good but the service was shocking.
The waiter and waitress couldn't have cared less and I felt pushed to hurry up.
One could go as far as saying our custom was not welcome. I don't usually pay much attention to the service in a restaurant as I am easy to please and focus more on the culinary expertise of the kitchen captain and their crew but on this occasion I was so infuriated with the lack of interest shown by the front of house staff that I felt compelled to write a review.
Its a real shame though because the food is pretty good, in particular the spicy vegetarian fried rice and the monk fish.
My recommendation, get take-out, avoid the sit in.
I love this place. there are lots of varied dishes on the menu and you can stuff yourself for a very reasonable cost.
I recommend entirely the squid starter - which possibly is the most delicious thing I have ever eaten (I have gone back many times and it stays as amazing) and the spring rolls are served with coriander, mint and lettuce leaves (to wrap up al the goodies and eat tidily).
the mains that I have tried (duck, noodle soups, goat curry, lost of black bean, ginger, spring onion etc dishes) have all been great and are always heathly portions.
The owner has also opened her doors for me early, and also moved me from a large table to a smaller one when she has needed the space and I was on my own but considering the low cost of her food, I completely understand that she needs as many people eating in the restaurant.
This is honestly my favourite food, not in london but so far, the world. I kid you not.
We have come to eat several times over the past few years and haver had the complete opposite experience to the past reviewer.
The food has always been excellent and original, the staff extremely polite and helpful and the owner a lovely charming woman. Service is always prompt and efficient, and it is great value too!
Last month we were seeing a show nearby and went when the staff were eating before opening (630) and she (the owner) invited us in and interrupted her own dinner to serve us herself. That is hardly what I would call bad service!
I agree it was unnecessary to move the other reviewer partway through their meal, but completely disagree on the service, food and cost.
We went to Thanh Binh and the service was really, really bad. The food was so bland that we had to ask for soy sauce. And the service was not good too as we had a waiter who looked like he couldn't care less about the world. The boss asked us to move from a four seat table to a two seated table halfway through our meal, which I thought was very rude.
And she justified herself by saying we did not order enough to make up 10 pounds per person. Unfortunately we did not read the small print in the menu and we just felt our entire dinner was very disrupted and we had the worst service we ever had. I am never going back to Thanh Binh again.
Thanh Binh has authentic Vietnamese cuisine, healthier & less stodgy/greasey than Chinese. Excellent value for money, restaurant food at take away prices. Very good lunchbox set meals, take away too. Book for evenings, gets busy. Pleasant efficient, quick waiters; exciting, volatile owner!
