The Albert is an intimate neighborhood pub popular with old school members of London’s Primrose Hill set.

The Venue
Having climbed the slopes and admired the lustrous views of Primrose Hill regain your strength at nearby pub The Albert, which offers a pleasant atmosphere to end any kind of day. Situated a couple of blocks from both Chalk Farm and Regents Park, The Albert is a frank, old pub nestled in a well-dressed neighborhood.

Although it has enjoyed a recent lick of warm terracotta paint, the furnishings and features at The Albert are still very much in line of that of a good old fashioned boozer. Velvet drapes, large country kitchen tables, a fine fireplace and quaint beer garden, complete with blossoming apple tree, add to the pub’s relaxed and pleasant charm.

The Atmosphere
Primrose Hill has become increasingly popular with the young, trendy and famous, but don't let that put you off because it is places like The Albert that remind you of the area’s great local vibe. The pub’s quiz nights in the winter just add to this gentility, with local teams scratching their heads for hours with some very tricky questions.

The Food
You would be fooled into thinking that the food at The Albert was verging on gastropub territory, but this is just good, affordable pub grub at its best. For the calorie counters the spicy chicken tikka kebab and zesty cous cous with refreshing raita is a healthy alternative when measured up to the salmon supreme, which comes served with a very decadent and delicious serving of dauphinoise potatoes. Other features include a succulently tasty grilled tuna steak with sauteed chorizo, beans, courgette and new potatoes, and a very slow roasted pork belly with scrumptious Lyonnaise potatoes and crunchy braised red cabbage.

Once the red wine has kicked in and your stomach’s growling for seconds, order the cheese board with an option of cheese from dolcelatte to cheddar, grapes and pickle, as it is the ideal satisfier.

The Drink
The Albert provides a reasonable selection of drinks from ales on tap, to organic ciders and a reasonable wine list, which includes a surprisingly full bodied Semillon chardonnay from Australia, and a spicy rich Old Vine Zinfandel red from California. If you’re in the mood for celebrating - perhaps after a pub quiz win - then the Prosecco del Veneto Astoria from Italy is a refreshingly petulant little number.

The Last Word
In the wintertime The Albert is ideal for brushing up on your general knowledge whilst enjoying a fine pub dinner. In the summer, it’s the perfect place to rest your weary feet after wandering the hills of Primrose.
