Always a good pint, good clientele and good atmosphere. One of the nicest around the Angel area and can always rely on a pleasant civilised drink. Toilets are something that brighten up the experience although when I first came back in the day it was slightly startling.
Booked space for 30 people upstairs in the angelic. was a brilliant night , the staff were very helpful and the space they had reserved for us was perfect and generous and its free to book! great place for drinks, very cool bar and the bathrooms are worth a visit in themselves!
My friends and I wanted to have somewhere chilled out and lovely to have a quick catch up, so decided to head to this pub because I had good memories of it.
We did only have one drink, but in that time the manager/owner of who ever it was tried to clear our table four times. At one point he picked up my drink which was still half full and told him kindly that I had not yet finished. Which was obvious. He then came by about 20 minutes later and shuffled the menu's. On his fourth visit to our table he said something about needing to rent the table out to us.
It made my friend and I feel very unwelcome. We just wanted a quiet drink without feeling like we were bothering someone. The pub was busy but there was still plenty of seats.
The comment was a little unnecessary. We were there for an hour. I have worked in bars before and seen people nursing the same pint for hours, but you just let them be.
Shame the manager didn't feel the need to do the same.
Dis appointed.
I was lucky enough to stumble across this bar last night whislt trying to get away from the Upper St hustle.
It was busy and loud, but what you expect from a bar on Saturday night. The staff were welcoming, i was served quickly, the music was good, and it seemed like the Manager had a real pride in the place.
I will defintly visit again when back in the area.5 stars. Check out the upper floor ceiling.
The Angelic use to be a good pub with proper beer, now it's a overprice waste of space place that have a ridiculous menu.
You would expect an 18 quid aberdeen rib-eye steak to be the dog's bollocks instead it was more of like looking at the Queen's face.
nothing special so avoid the place like the plague for lunch.
Moved to the area six months ago and the Angelic has quickly became our local.
Good atmosphere, whether it is a busy evening or chilled out afternoon, stylish decor, friendly staff, good selection of drinks.
Haven't eaten there yet but food we have seen being served looks delicious. To top all that, James the manager and Romina are both great hosts.
The Angelic is much improved under new management.
The food is really good and the atmosphere is excellent any day in the week. Rebecca
Always been to The Angelic in the evenings and it's always been fine. It's well located and you can hire the room upstairs. But don't come there for food!!! You have to wait at least an hour and the food is really really poor.
The staff are never that friendly but noticed it particularly at lunchtime when we dared to complain that it took them over an hour to bring 3 skinny plates of food in an empty pub. Obviously not worried about the credit crunch, will not go back there to eat!
Best place ever. Service is outstanding. Staff are friendly, and the atmosphere in the evenings is like that of the west end. Reasonably priced, so it doesn't blow a hole in you pocket and all in all, a good evening/night out.

The Angelic actually reminds me more of a classy cafe than a bar/gastro pub. But this is a good thing. It's kind of place to head to relax and unwind or refresh your mind after a busy day at work or to go to for lunch on sunny day.
The interior is bright, light and airy and you have to visit the downstairs medieval dungeon toilets! What a contrast! Don't be scared though, they're actually quite funny.
It is a little bit pricey. But then again this is London....innit?
The Angelic is lovely. Quite big but always busy. Bar staff are friendly and I love the comedy in the loos.
My only complaint is the music is sometimes a bit dated (and not in a good way). The last time I was in they played early 90's dance! Rubbish!!
Well, clearly these reviews are all out of date, except the last one. The Angelic is amongst the finest late night gastro pubs in Islington, and as you can imagine it is up against stiff competition. A big pub, it is often rammed at the weekend, but it stays open late all week and has another bar upstairs too.
Off the gastly beaten track on Upper Street and full of period charm, it sports the theme of Hell downstairs in the toilets, Earth on the ground floor and Heaven upstairs. Beers include niceties such as Baltika and staff are on the whole competent and friendly.
The food is really excellent, and reassuringly The Angelic offers what many comparable gastro pubs in the area lack: a great menu without ridiculous prices.
Only moved to the area recently and already The Angelic is my favourite haunt. I don't think I've ever seen the place quiet which says something about it's popularity in itself. I've not tried the food yet but I've seen it going by and it looks fantastic. Also they have a fresh juice bar which I've never seen before either, in a North London bar. That along with some very unique decor upstairs and down, makes even the most fleeting of visits an experience! The Angelic is perfect for a lively weekend night out and I'd imagine a chilled out Sunday afternoon with the wife, or not.
I love The Angelic. Fantastic vibe, great food and a trendy place to hang out. Even good for Sunday brunch.
This is my favourite pub in Islington. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The decor's good too. With really high ceilings and loads of light. It's decadent upstairs and dungeon like in the loos. The comedy in the toilets is a really good touch. And the food is very good. Always something different to try out and huge portions.
The Angelic - well it's anything but. Unfortunately. The venue itself is good, nice ambience, not bad beer. When it comes to the service and the staff, that's another story. Expect to wait up to 40 - 60 mins for food at a lunchtime (even when not busy) if it comes at all. I used to go there quite often for lunch until my orders kept being 'chewed up by the machine'. And the staff are rude too, made me out to be awkward when I asked if they would give us a round of drinks to compensate, in the waitresses words herself "we usually do give free drinks, but now you've asked I'm not going to give you them".
That's service with a smile!
wouldn't mind but the food is over priced for what you get.
