I met a friend for a coffee at The Apogee yesterday (5pm), prior to going to the cinema. Although the place was almost empty we were given the table nearest the door, so every time someone else came in I got a blast of freezing cold air. We asked if we could move further inside and were told that the further end was for people who wanted to eat, and even though empty could fill up quickly.
When we left half an hour later, the place was still virtually empty. I hadn't been here for sometime, but in the past I recall a more bustling atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon, a much more helpful service and had always been allowed to sit further inside the establishment. I doubt if I'll be going back again now. Places like this that can't provide a decent service deserve to go out of business. Given that they hardly had any customers, even on a day when Harry Potter was playing to packed houses, makes me wonder if this place is on the slow slide to oblivion.
The food (especially the desert the chocolate cake) was excellent. I ordered fish as main course and it was a fairly big fish with very few bones.
We didn't have problems witht he service. We were three and one of us is a wheelchair user. Due to this fact the seating choice was a disaster. I was placed near the entrance door with my back to the window. Due to the heavy rain my clothes were wet to my skin so I would have aprreciated a warm spot in the restaurant. Instead a lot of customers came in regularly and the draught was not bearable. I was freezing while eating their good food.
It's not a cheap restaurant but the price - quality rate is very good. If you want to eat at the West End in a cosy restaurant I would recommend this place. As long as you don't have a wheelchair user in your group you should be fine. Restrooms are inaccessible for disabled as well.
I am happy the Apogee has reopened after the fire. I was closed for about a year I think. This place is a nice escape from the craziness of Leicester Square! The barbecued meats are really fantastic! The mezze platters are very good as well. There is still a very good selection of dishes if you visit with friends who are not adventerous(as I did) but then Iranian food isn't really adventurous, it's just BBQ meats, no spices other than saffron and you can substitute chips or salad for the rice. My friends and I had a really enjoyable evening. Staff aren't the best but some try hard.
The Apogee is in a really central location in Leicester Square. It's quite pricey in there because of this, but the food is good and the atmosphere is very pleasant.
The Apogee is a nice restaurant if you're willing to spend a bit of money.
I have worked right by Leicester Square and have been to The Apogee quite a few times. The food is quite good and fairly good value, but I always seem to forget how bad the service is. It seems to have gone from bad to worse as well. On our last visit, the manager tried to overcharge us for things we hadn't had and instead of having a civilised discussion, he proceeded to embarrass our group in front of the whole restaurant - completely forgetting the fact that the "suggested optional gratuity" was actually more than what he was chasing.
I would say OK for the takeaway buffet, but with so many choices in the area, the food isn't worth the trauma at The Apogee of such appalling service if you want to eat in.
