Went there last week for some honest good pub grub! We got more than that! The food was fantastic and I have paid double the price for a lot less in the past. I had the duck and it was amazing! The staff were also really friendly and fun and made the night. My girlfriend also seriously enjoyed the evening and we will be back very soon. Do not listen to the negative reviews! Amazing under rated Gastro pub and I cant wait for the comedy Night! ( we bought tickets when we were there!)
We were two couples staying at the Travelodge, next door, and went for dins on mon 26 mar and had a meal @ the Barrow Boy The main courses 2x linguini 1x chick supreme and 1x burger were really good and the puddings also very good We were looked after very well by a young Sydneyite named Mia, who was really very good, and made the evening before a very somber occasion very enjoyable
Absolutely swerve this one guys! went in for dinner and the menu appears to be an honest gastro pub menu but when we eventually recieved our meals we were all in shock by the cheap and nasty products used,we left our meals took the advice of one of the regulars who suggested we get a McDonald's instead.
the drinks menu is very limited and generally very boring.
It seems these days that people who have no clue or passion take on pubs these days and think consumers are clueless grazers who will drink and eat anything put in front of them.come on guys its time to let go .The barrow-boy has had its day.
I was pleasantly surprised to find such a nice looking pub on North End Road; went in with some colleagues for lunch, wasn't concerned about it being empty as it was a week day. The menu looked nice, we went for the meal offer of £8.50 for food & a drink. Friendly bar man took order, all fine so far.
Unfortunately, the food wasn't worth more than I'd pay in a cafe; the chips were nice, but the avocado was mouldy and the chicken tasted cheap. We had in fact seen the chef leave and return with Iceland shopping bags during the long wait for our lunch - really? We asked about this at the end, but the barman claimed to know nothing about what goes on in the kitchen. He then proceeded to ask why I hadn't paid the optional service charge; the clue's in the title. I think if a customer doesn't offer a tip, they shouldn't be asked for one. There is a reason for it, not just being stingy.
This is probably a nice bar to go to for a drink, but wouldn't recommend the food.
Ate here on a Sunday, when we arrived it looked shut, bar man was rude and slow, acted still drunk from
the night before. As we arrived another couple were complaining as he had got their food order wrong! Not a great start. Poor choice of soft drinks and bottle beers and ciders.
Menu very limited, if you don't like red meat, I ended up having chips, my friend had a burger and loved it so that was one bonus.
Honestly would go as far to day that I would of had a better meal at mc donalds across the road!
Seriously under-rated pub.
We often go for the odd meal in the week, and/or on the weekend and surprised why the place is not more popular.
Decorated well, burgers are brilliant and a good selection of drinks.
Upstairs outside area is great too for the summer.
Worth a visit!
Great local pub, bit out of place on the North End Road (compared to the Elm, Oak et al). Unpretentious with excellent food and nice ales. Cheers!
Really, really friendly and helpful staff, and I thought the food was tasty and well-presented, with attention being paid to even the bar snack-type items on the menu, such as the humous with pitta and the fries. Great!
I've been to The Barrow Boy twice. The first time we had a lovely breakfast but it did take 45 minutes to arrive. The instant, embarrassed reaction of the barman was to let it go for free - we tried to pay £10 but they were having non of it - Brilliant customer service.
So we thought - be fair - go back and try again. This time we had an evening meal. Pork loin and Risotto (2 dishes) both served at the right time and... they were both fantastic. Accomanied by some great wine and yet again the customer service was perfect.
This little gem has a mix of areas inside. Lovely roof terrace, function room upstaires, leather sofa area and lots of nice tables to enjoy the food. I hope Barrow Boy gets the punters it deserves because the North End Road needs more places like this.
Just have a look at the picture of the steak and the poor chips suffocating beneath the thing on the website. On the flipping website for goodness sake. Get someone who knows how to use a camera to take pics of your bar and what you serve up. Please. Let's face it, the bar is OK, but just OK. It's just too small to be a gastro pub. The roof terrace is a real USP for this place but that's not going to help you during the winter months. This place has fallen into a too commonplace trap. Keep the beer pricy to keep out the riff-raff, you then sell less beer and have to rely more on the food, but guess what? You're not a restaurant. So you get fewer people going back for food as there are better places to go for a burger; or a burger and a pint if that's your thing or, hey, just a pint without being ripped off. Take the large pub next door for example, I don't mind if there are some lads out for a couple beers over in the corner who aren't eating but spending good money on a few pints of Stella. I can find somewhere to sit and have something to eat with a girlfriend where it's not going to bother us. Do you see what I'm getting at? They can do both and earn a good profit from the wet and the dry. The Barrow boy can't.
Do yourselves a favour. Reduce the price of your beer, get more people through the door, get a tapas menu going and SELL it. Yes the awful SELL word. I'll write the script for your staff if you like. 50% of your increased amount of punters spending £7 a head on patatas bravas, Jamon Iberico and Chorizo. See what that does to your food costs and ultimately your profit. Your chef who can't do steaks or chips can't really mess that up.
I have not made a habit out of writing reviews in my somewhat extensive experience of wining and dining, but felt compelled to after stumbling across the eminently inviting Barrow Boy! What a gem- nestled in amongst the eclectic mix of shops and, of course, market stalls, which characterise North End Rd in Fulham.
My friend and I were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and we enjoyed the veal cutlets, which can only be described as divine! The Barrow Boy is most certainly not making idle claims, as is often the case, when it categorises itself as a 'gastropub'. Not only did the food leave our taste buds tingling with delight, our fellow diners appeared to have a similarly satisfying experience. Our table, on the unexpectedly charming roof terrace, allowed us to feast, not only on the aforementioned cuisine, but also on the mesmeric hustle and bustle that is North End Rd.
Furthermore, and contrary to the somewhat scathing review of the local area posted by a recent reviewer, we found the clientele to be a happy mix of local residents, businesspeople and those who simply seek the warmth and unpretentious ambiance that is The Barrow Boy.
Here's to you and your future success-and need I say it, we will be back!

I have lived in Fulham for the past three years now and have had the unique pleasure of finding a fantastic gastro pub on North End Road. The service was of a high level and the food was absolutely superb. I couldnt recommend this little pub any higher. They have a lovely roof terrace which is great in the summertime and their beer selection is well thought out. The Barrow Boy has a clean, fresh, family spirited feeling that has sorely been lacking in the Fulham area for some time now. I give the Barrow Boy a ten out of ten!
I was recomended to try this great little gastro pub by a friend who lives locally in Fulham, me and my husband found it really friendly and cool the roof terrace is amazing its not to busy up there, the menu we found was well thought out and varied, we both had the steak and we thought they were cooked to perfection not to charred and great chips, will be comingh back real soon with my friends for sure,.
Lovely little pub and very nice staff but was put off by returning because of the very bad meal I had. The steak was charred badly and the chips were limp. Maybe it was an off day.
Great food, very friendly and accommodating staff. £3.50 is a bit much for a pint of Pride, but the quality and prices of the menu make up for it if you're eating. Roof terrace doesn't get much sun in the evenings, but as a quieter alternative to the Malt House garden with a bit more variety on the menu, it's excellent.
fantastic food, great service I loved it,I had there steak benedict which was one of the best brunch dishes I have ever had,
