The Best Banh Mi
To our minds, just about the best snack known to man, these delicious Vietnamese baguettes may be the product of the French colonial rule of Vietnam, but by god they’re good. The bread used in Vietnam is really difficult to replicate but the best banh mi in London manage it, filling chewy, light rolls with different bits of meat and loads of coriander, daikon radish, carrot, cucumber, black pepper and fresh, hot chilli.
City Caphe
17 Ironmonger Lane, Bank, London, EC2V 8EY
Right in the heart of the City, this place is only open on weekday lunchtimes, and usually has a fair few skirts and suits queuing outside and all the way round the inside. It’s the banh mi most people are going for, it seems, with the traditional pork version a very good mix of peppery pate, roast pork, ham, daikon, carrot, loads of coriander and some fiery, seed-in slices of chilli.

Sen Viet
119 King's Cross Road, King's Cross, London, WC1X 9NH
Just down the road from our huge offices sits this charming littler Vietnamese restaurant. Having tried a whole host of other places we’ve decided that Sen Viet definitely does some of the best banh mi in London, even if it’s incredibly annoying that their caramelised pork version is barely ever available.

Banh Mi Bay
4-6 Theobald's Road, Bloomsbury, London, WC1X 8PN
As the name suggests, this place in Holborn specialises in banh mi, and it shows. The banh mi bi (shredded caramel pork) is brilliant, beaten only by the ‘Bay Special’, but all are good thanks to some of the most authentic baguettes and the not-oft seen addition of mooli – which really works.

Keu!
332 Old Street, Shoreditch, London, EC1V 9DR
From the hands of Viet Grill’s Hugh Trung Bui, this is another one that specialises in banh mi, serving very faithful versions from an attractive spot on Old Street. Keu means ‘that’s fantastic’ in Vietnamese, which is a pretty apt description of their banh mi, not least the BBQ pork version. They might be a little more expensive than others in London, but they are very good.

Velo
104 Tooley Street, London Bridge, London, SE1 2TH
This relative newcomer on Tooley Street dishes out a pretty impressive menu filled with loads of Vietnamese classics. However, if you want to nip in and take something away then the banh mi are pretty good, with the honey lemongrass chicken our particular favourite, even if it could be too sickly sweet for some.
