The Best Breakfasts
As we all know, it's the most important meal of the day but few of us are ever up early enough to make our own. Praise be to the eateries of London then, who break our fasts and ease us into the day. It's obviously not always feasible to partake during the week, but there's nothing we like more than starting a Saturday off with some good scran. If we can peel ourselves out of bed, that is.
Bentleys Oyster Bar and Grill
11-15 Swallow Street, Mayfair, London, W1B 4DG
Annoyingly, this place isn't open at weekends but during the week if offers a surprisingly affordable breakfast menu, including what, in our opinion, is the best eggs benedict in town. Worth heading to for that alone.

The Breakfast Club
31 Camden Passage, Islington, London, N1 8EA
It's hardly the most imaginative of spots to recommend, but if you live down Islington way and you're suffering from a hangover, this is a great place at which to cure it. The full monty is a well-made beast but we usually go for pancakes with bacon and maple syrup before feeling even worse.

Roast
The Floral Hall, Stoney Street, Borough, London, SE1 1TL
Roast is always somewhere that people recommended for breakfast, and with good reason. The kippers are good for traditionalists, but the eggs royal and the baked tomatoes in Worcestershire sauce will always be Roast's pièce de résistance. They do great, if expensive, booster shakes too.

Coq d'Argent
No 1 Poultry, The City, London, EC2R 8EJ
Not only can you enjoy a particularly good breakfast here, you can also listen to the suits of the City do some blue sky thinking outside the box about the bottom line. It's probably best to have a quick chortle and then concentrate on what are excellent breakfasts, particularly the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on brioche.

Ottolenghi
287 Upper Street, Islington, London, N1 2TZ
We absolutely love anything to do with Yotam Ottolenghi and the breakfasts on offer at his eponymous chain are every bit the match of what's on offer in the evening. It's not cheap, and you'll probably have to queue, but the ever-changing menu will leave you very pleased indeed.

Hawksmoor Guildhall
10 Basinghall Street, City, London, EC2V 5BQ
It can get a little boring recommending Hawksmoor at just about every turn but in addition to their peerless steaks and their incredible lunches, they also do a brilliant breakfast at Guildhall. It remains a distinctly meaty affair though, so expect things like smoked bacon chop, short-rib bubble and squeak, grilled bone marrow and trotter baked beans.

Caravan
11-13 Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell, London, EC1R 4QD
Another very welcome Aussie addition to London, this Exmouth Market restaurant is always rammed at the weekends, where those who appreciate some deliciously unorthodox breakfasts can be found with big smiles on their faces. The coffee is excellent too.

E Pellicci
332 Bethnal Green Road, Bethnal Green, London, E2 0AG
This brilliant little spot on Bethnal Green Road has been feeding Londoners for well over a century now, and their breakfasts are definitely some of the best in London. It's greasy-spoon-meets-Italian-cafe so expect lasagne and bolognaise alongside a really rather magnificent £5 fry up that features some of the best bubble and squeak in town.

Inn the Park
St James's Park, St James's, London, SW1A 2BJ
You can't get too many better places to actually eat breakfast in London, as this place looks out and across the splendour of St James's Park. Thankfully the breakfast itself is up to scratch too, especially the really rather lovely poached eggs with roasted pumpkin and avocado. The full English is excellent too, if you like things a little more masculine.
