The Best Burgers
The humble burger has come a long way in recent years, especially in our dear old city, where the chains have had to up their game thanks to a raft of excellent independents. Throw in a good number of other restaurants jumping on the bandwagon and there's never been a better time to put your face into that beautiful combination of patty and bun.
Opera Tavern
23 Catherine Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2B 5JS
Though purists might take umbrage at the inclusion of this, the Opera Tavern's iberico burger has gone down in foodie folklore. And quite right too. It's a beautiful combination of iberico pork and foie gras, and even though it's small, it's worth crossing London for.

Bar Boulud
Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, 66 Knightsbridge, Knightsbridge, London, SW1X 7LA
Order these delicious little puppies medium-rare and you'll be served up a seriously good, thick and round patty that's beautifully pink in the middle and impeccably charred on the outside. Another burger that's worth its weight in gold. Almost.

Kua Aina
26 Foubert's Place, Soho, London, W1F 7PP
This Soho burger restaurant landed in London all the way from Hawaii’s North Shore, and it was a pilgrimage certainly worth making. Well, at least we think so. All of them are pretty good, but our favourite is the avocado burger - it somehow works very well indeed.

Hache
24 Inverness Street, Camden, London, NW1 7HJ
Sometimes it's the actual burger restaurants that are the best, and Hache argues a pretty good case to be just that. All burgers are served in a ciabatta with rocket, beef tomato, red onion and their own mayo, but it's the expertly cooked, impeccably seasoned beef that we particularly like. Definitely a chain to try.

Joe Allen
2 Burleigh Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 7PX
So good it's not even on the menu, the burger at Joe Allen is one of those things that foodies in London should apparently just know about. And with pretty good reason - there's no seasoning, which lets the quality of the minced sirloin sing. It does so beautifully, by the way.

MEATliquor
74 Welbeck Street, Marylebone, London, W1G 0BA
This restaurant (from the guys behind the Meatwagon burger truck) does pretty much what it says on the tin, so expect plenty of meat and plenty of liquor. Possibly the best burgers in London, these heart-attack inducing beasts are magnificent, and served in one of the sleaziest venues known to man.

Admiral Codrington
17 Mossop Street, Chelsea, London, SW3 2LY
This Chelsea boozer is well known for its food, but perhaps best known for its brilliant burger. The 8oz beef patty is pretty good on its own but what might strike you most is the fact that this is one perfectly put together burger... it almost stays together as you eat it. Definitely worth the trip to Chelsea, wherever you might be.

Honest Burgers
Unit 12, Brixton Village, Brixton, London, SW9 8PR
One of the many excellent little spots on Brixton Market, Honest Burgers is one of those places lauded for its masterly mastery of the humble burger. And quite right too. The meat's from Ginger Pig so it starts off well anyway, but what arrives on your plate is just so darn tasty you'll probably end up making the pilgrimage on a regular basis... just like us.

Patty and Bun
54 James Street, Marylebone, London, W1U 1EU
Suitably dirty but obviously using some of the best ingredients, these are big, fatty and juicy burgers cooked perfectly. They popped up at boozers for a little while before making this James Street spot home, so now you can get one of the very best burgers in London whenever you want.

Olivocarne
61 Elizabeth Street, Belgravia, London, SW1W 9PP
It's not just the burger joints that appreciate a good bit of meat between bread. Olivocarne, the seriously good Italian in Belgravia, have put their twist on things with a Sardinian boar version, with melted Sardinian pecorino cheese, caramelised onions, rocket, tomato and a sourdough bun (baked in house). Genuinely marvellous.
