The Best Outdoor Dining
When the sun is out there’s nothing better than enjoying a long, leisurely lunch or casual dinner al fresco. But where are the best outdoor dining spots in London? Given the claustrophobic nature of much of London it’s perhaps surprising that there are so many good venues for outdoor dining, but we’ve handpicked our favourites for the definitive View London list of best outdoor dining restaurants in London.
Lido Cafe
Brockwell Lido, Dulwich Road, Herne Hill, London, SE24 0PA
It might come as something of a surprise that some of the best outdoor dining in London can be found at a lido, but this brilliant little café serves seriously good food. So have a swim and tuck in guilt free. Or just tuck in – you’ll be very glad you did.

Mon Plaisir
21 Monmouth Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9DD
Okay, so this isn’t exactly an expansive outdoor dining space but the few little tables outside this excellent little French restaurant enable you to dine on some very good food while you watch Covent Garden life swan by. A really great spot for a bit of lunchtime al fresco dining.

The Modern Pantry
1st Floor, 47-48 St Johns Square, Clerkenwell, London, EC1V 4JJ
Anna Hansen’s gloriously good restaurant in Clerkenwell is worth hitting whether it’s sunny or not, but the cute and quaint little alfresco tables outside are a great steal if you can grab them. They get snapped up pretty quickly but few things are more pleasant than tucking into a Modern Pantry brunch in this very lovely little square.

The Gun
27 Coldharbour, Docklands, London, E14 9NS
This Ed and Tom Martin boozer in the Docklands is always seen as one of the best outdoor dining spots in London, thanks to a beautiful terrace looking straight out over the river to the O2 Arena. As is the case with all the ETM venues, the food is pretty darn good too (especially if they get the barbecue out) but if you fancy something a little fancier there’s a gin garden next door, with deckchairs, skittles and other summery stuff.

Coq d'Argent
No 1 Poultry, The City, London, EC2R 8EJ
This City favourite serves exceptional French food but it really comes into its own in the summer, when the terrace and gardens swing their doors open for some outdoor dining. The views up on high over the Square Mile impress too, and even if it the summer sun disappears – as is its wont - there are heaters, so no need to get the sniffles.

Inn the Park
St James's Park, St James's, London, SW1A 2BJ
You can’t find much better alfresco dining than what’s on offer at this popular Peyton and Byrne venue, nestled amongst flora and fauna of St James’s Park. The building itself is beautiful and the space given over to the terrace generous. Throw in great views and simple, impressive food, and this really is one of the best outdoor dining venues in London.

Odette's
130 Regents Park Road, Primrose Hill, London, NW1 8XL
Bryn Williams’ Primrose Hill restaurant is just about everything a (slightly posh) neighbourhood restaurant should be. And that extends to its gorgeous walled garden, where some seriously good al fresco dining can be had. You can’t book these sought after tables though, so make sure you get in early when the sun is shining.

Michael Nadra Primrose Hill
42 Gloucester Avenue, Primrose Hill, London, NW1 8JD
Another great restaurant offering some of the best outdoor dining in London. Michael Nadra really knows how to put a plate of food together, and few places can be as pleasant as the gardens of his Primrose Hill venture. Sure, you’re a bit walled in (it’s below street level) but it’s a very lovely little spot, and great for the excellent Martinis on offer.

Villandry
170 Great Portland Street, Fitzrovia, London, W1W 5QB
This all-encompassing spot in Fitzrovia is cracking come summertime, with the very continental feel of the venue itself more than matched by two al fresco terraces. You can tuck into food from the café and the restaurant proper, and with the worlds of either Great Portland Street or the more secluded Bolsover Street from which to choose, you should find yourself pretty darn happy.
