The Best Pizza Restaurants
There's something so deliciously simple about the humble pizza. Which makes it really rather fascinating that there can be so much deviation between those that are good, and those that are not so good. Thankfully, our fair capital now has some cracking places in which to get your fill, with all those listed below being our particular picks of pizza places.
Franco Manca
144 Chiswick High Road, Chiswick, London, W4 1PU
These little puppies (or not so little...) have had traditionalists all in a tizzy about how good they are, and there's pretty much a general consensus among foodie folk that these are just about as good as they get. And who are we to disagree?

Pizza East
56 Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, London, E1 6JJ
The other dishes at this place on Shoreditch High Street are pretty impressive, but it's the pizzas that keep people head back. Everything's made in house, and the incredible pizzas are cooked in a wood oven - just as they should be. The lardo, mushroom, mozzarella and parsley one is a real winner.

Santore
59-61 Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell, London, EC1R 4QL
This place became a regular haunt for us when our offices were just around the corner from Exmouth Market, and the only thing we really ordered were the pizzas. Cooked in a wood over and served with a big fat Italian smile.

Pizza Metro Pizza
64c Battersea Rise, Battersea, London, SW11 1EQ
Apparently this was the first pizzeria in London to serve pizza by the metre - hence the name. We're not entirely sure of the veracity of this claim but nonetheless, they make particularly pleasing pizzas. Just don't try to eat the whole metre yourself.

Pizza Express
450 Strand, Strand, London, WC2R 0RG
We're not going to make any apologies whatsoever for including Pizza Express in this list as they remain one of the most reliable pizza restaurants in London. There's one on every corner so you can usually find one with ease, but this big beast on the Strand is always pretty good. Get yourself a voucher, grab a seat and tuck in.

Sartori
15-18 Great Newport Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 7JE
With a very traditional wood-fired brick oven, the pizzas you get at Sartori are just like they are back in Italy - where these guys quite clearly come from. The calzones are great too but it's the premium-sized pizzas (up to a metre long) that are your best bet here. Grab a group or be greedy.

Santa Maria Pizzeria
15 St Mary's Road, Ealing, London, W5 5RA
This very popular Ealing eatery serves pizzas just as they are in Naples, with every effort made to be as authentic to Neapolitan pizzerias as possible. The two guys working their magic are Lucio Miano Petta and Emanuele Tagliarina, and they really do know what they're doing, having worked in Naples and in pizzerias across London for years.

Homeslice
13 Neal's Yard, Seven Dials, London, WC2H 9DP
We don't really do pizza by the slice here like they do over the pond, but this very good spot tucked away in Neal's Yard is bucking the trend. The pizza is impressive and the boutique venue itself a cracking little setting in which to tear and chew.

Sodo
126 Upper Clapton Road, Upper Clapton, London, E5 9JY
Excellent sourdough base, some really rather marvellous pasata and an astute hand manning the pizza oven ensures this Clapton spot is certainly one of the best pizza restaurants in London. A testament to the area.
