The Best Restaurants With A View
However good the food is, if you're staring at a wall of damp you're unlikely to be impressed. Similarly, if the food is bad then not even the most sumptuous of vistas will make it taste good. We've experienced both, but the places below are those restaurants that get both pretty much spot on, in our humble opinion.
A seriously good restaurant that matches exquisite views with Michelin-starred food. Located on the 28th floor of the London Hilton, few places can match the views here, especially if you get the right table. In fact, you can even see into the back garden of Buckingham Palace if you ask nicely.

If you can nab yourself one of the window seats at this impressive little eatery then you're in for a treat as there are some cracking views out across the Thames and up to Tower Bridge. And it's a really great spot for a romantic meal when darkness falls.
The food at this gorgeous restaurant very nearly matches the exquisite views across the London skyline, which is no mean feat. Especially impressive at night, this is a great place to pop to if you want to appear all cultured and highbrow - it's above the National Portrait Gallery you see, hence the name.

We're big fans of Gary Rhodes' cooking, but when you combine his butter-laden delights with spectacular views of The Gherkin and beyond, you're definitely onto a very tasty winner.

Roast
The Floral Hall, Stoney Street, Borough, London, SE1 1TL
This is included in the list primarily because of its brilliant people-watching potential. You might not be able to see the sumptuous sights of London but you can (metaphorically and literally) look down on hundreds of people making their way around the madness of Borough Market.

The impressive terrace at this City favourite was once only open during the summer months but these days they put a few heaters outside and turn into somewhere that's surprisingly cosy. Sitting atop No 1 Poultry, you can gaze out across the capital as you tuck into Mickael Weiss's very fine fare.

A must for anyone into their wines, this excellent restaurant on the banks of the Thames comes from the guys behind the Jordan Wine Estate in South Africa, so expect a very impressive wine list. The food's good too, and you can enjoy both while casting your eye along the Thames, across to the Tate Modern and beyond.

Until relatively recently this restaurant at the top of Centre Point right on Tottenham Court Road was only open to members. They've opened up the doors to the hoi polloi now, which is very nice of them as the views this place boasts are the kind that everyone should get to see. And the food's not bad either.
