The Best Service
Service can make such a difference when dining out. The best service at London restaurants can raise the mediocre to the marvellous whilst bad service can turn a two-Michelin star treat into a complete waste of money. When you get good service from staff that want to make your meal the best it can be, it genuinely makes a huge difference to your whole dining experience. So take a look at the list of the restaurants we think offer the best service, and avoid those waiters getting all haughty when you don’t take them up on their suggestion of the most expensive bottle of wine on the list.
Galvin at Windows
London Hilton on Park Lane, 22 Park Lane, Mayfair, London, W1K 1BE
You might recognise the exceedingly pleasant man who greets you at this excellent Michelin starred venue; he’s Fred Sirieix, co-presenter of the television show, ‘Michel Roux’s Service’. As general manager at Windows, Fred has passed on his knowledge of how to treat diners to his equally impressive team, all of whom make a meal at Windows very enjoyable indeed.

The Wolseley
160 Piccadilly, Mayfair, London, W1J 9EB
As long as you don’t walk into this very posh brasserie looking like a dishevelled mess then they will treat you very well indeed. It might be a touch old-school for some, but most customers will enjoy being impeccably looked after by staff who – surprisingly perhaps – look like they enjoy what they’re doing.

Greenhouse
27a Hays Mews, Mayfair, London, W1J 5NY
One of Marlon Abela’s very fine restaurants, this gorgeous and green oasis in the midst of Mayfair serves up the kind of elegant food that might make some feel a little overawed but thankfully the service is sweet as a button and very knowledgeable indeed.

Cote
50-54 Turnham Green, Chiswick, London, W4 1QP
A surprise inclusion on a best service at London restaurants list but one that’s definitely warranted. A chain it may be but Cote – and this branch especially – know how to do informal but professional waiting perfectly, with lots of smiles and some excellent knowledge of both food and wine.

Hawksmoor Seven Dials
11 Langley Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JG
With its very American style of service, the Hawksmoor staff might be a touch too relaxed and jokey for some but we rather like it. And although taking pains to remember (and use) diners’ names might be considered a little cheesy, at least they have taken those pains – and not at the expense of getting everything right and making sure you have a very nice time indeed.

Riding House Cafe
43-51 Great Titchfield Street, Fitzrovia, London, W1W 7PQ
Another venue that goes for the informal feel, The Riding House Café staff not only know their stuff, they also seem to have that rare ability to know when to engage in conversation and when to leave well alone – a quality that seems to elude many restaurants the world over.

Bentleys Oyster Bar and Grill
11-15 Swallow Street, Mayfair, London, W1B 4DG
The service at Bentley’s might not be perfect (they drop things and have to refer to the board for the specials) but it’s done with the kind of charm and friendliness that fits Bentley’s perfectly. It’s the kind of place you want to spend hours in, and the staff definitely have something to do with that.

Angler Restaurant
South Place Hotel, Seventh Floor, 3 South Place, The City, London, EC2M 2AF
You can usually rely on D&D restaurants to offer some of the best service in London but this brilliant restaurant takes it to another level. Every single member of staff boasts considerable expertise, and all have that impressive knack of making their jobs look easy - which is no small feat.
