You’ll never miss breakfast again once you try out The Breakfast Club in Soho.

The Venue
Behind the little yellow shop front it’s always morning as breakfast is served from open till close. Step inside and you’ll feel like you’ve landed in a student’s bed-sit kitchen. The ceilings are low, the tables and chairs are all different and look like they were bought at various jumble sales around London. The lights are merely bulbs in the ceiling; they’re not evening dangling from a cable. On top of that, the odd one or two are red or green. It feels fairly cramped and you’ll find that this popular little breakfast spot usually doesn’t have enough seating for its potential customers so many walk in and straight back out having scanned the environment for a vacant table.

If you are lucky enough to get a seat, you’ll either find yourself just inside the front door to the left on the fairly large communal table or sitting at one of the four or five tables against the bare-brick wall that runs opposite the bar. You’ll notice a lot of Polaroids have been stuck on this wall around the Elvis poster and jumble sale mirror. It’s not entirely clear who they’re all of - the staff and their friends, the regular punters? – but it’s something to ponder as you sip on your breakfast tea. A second room sits about eight steps below this one at the back where they’ve tried very hard to fit in as many chairs and tables as possible.

The Atmosphere
At the Breakfast Club it’s always happy and you get a sense of that when you order your meal at the bar. You’ll always be greeted with a smile and a casual, How’s it going?, as if you’ve been buddies since the day you were born. The staff have a very casual and fun approach to work making this a very joyous venue for a good sit-down meal. Pumping on the stereo is an eclectic mix of current and classic chart toppers.

The Food
Jacket potatoes, salads and sandwiches are all available as well as your usual breakfasts including waffles, toasties, porridge and your Full English (except they call it a Full Monty). A bacon and egg sandwich costs £3.50 if you choose to eat in. This may seem quite steep but just wait until you see the thing. Sitting between two large, thick slices of fresh bread you’ll find a large fried egg and plenty of bacon. Some may choose to tackle it with a knife and fork whilst the extremists will go in with their bare hands. It’s a filling meal and tastes very good too.

The Drink
The coffee is fair trade and organic and they also have a selection of teas to offer. A small range of interesting juices includes one consisting of lemon, carrot and ginger and another entitled Slow Boy which is made up of carrot, apple, orange and ginger. Those that like their smoothies can choose from an exciting collection of names including Spicy Blue Monday, The Big Breakfast and Green is Good.

The Last Word
If you can find somewhere to sit then this is a great place to fill your belly during the day. Unfortunately they don’t have enough space to accommodate all the people that want in on the action which is a shame because they offer such good food.
