The overall food and experience was good, we went for Mothering Sunday and had the set menu.
What was disappointing was I got a whopping 180 quid additional charge on my credit card, when I called them to get an explanation they said it was because I was a 'No Show'.
I had to supply a copy of the receipt to prove I had eaten there. Not so easy since another person in our party paid the bill. Eventually I tracked it down.
As you can imagine this has soured my experience somewhat, I can't believe the did not have the courtesy to call if charging ones credit card.
Don't believe The hype. This is a vastly overrated restaurant and how it got two Micheelin stars I will never know. Perhaps it was good once.
My husband and I had dinner. After a fairly tasteless starter of scallops we had ordered lamb and rabbit. Portions were tiny,my husband's rabbit was salty and the accompanying squid was rubbery. My lamb was tasteless and overcooked.
Overall, we were very disappointed and felt truly ripped off. There were no canapes, no amuse bouche and we didn't bother with dessert because our complaints were met with complete distain.
I have had wonderful food at other Michelin rated establishments in London. Sadly, this is not one I would visit agin.
What a delight to see a 'proper' french restaurant in London...I went to The Capital with all the family, with my parents being French we do tend to be extremely critical of what London has to offer however on this occasion we would really have been hard pushed to find something...everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming which is great, we really don't like the sort of places where you feel like you are on show and your waiter is so blooming nervous he's shaking as he pours your water...you know the type!
The decor was welcoming but not overpowering and the main feature is definitely the food, wine and the service team...which is how it should be! There was a great Frenchie feel throughout the evening with the Restuarant Manager Christophe being 'la pièce de résistance' a real character and so nice to see someone with a little personality showing that a restaurant can be well managed without being stiff...
My parents returned to France hoping that one day it will possible to find this quality of food more readily available over there and until then I guess we will just have to go back to The Capital for our fix...oh well what a shame, its a hard life but someone has to do it!
This is a must visit for all lovers of food, wine, cheese and the art of dining out...
What a disappointment! Had dinner here and sent both courses back. Starter of scallops just tasted like cucumber and the scallops certainly were not fresh. Main course of rabbit was very salty with overcooked squid. Wine was fab but went home hungry after paying a serious amount of money. Pokey dining room with no atmosphere. Two Michelin stars? Not in my book!
Had lunch at The Capital on a dreary Saturday in January - what better way to raise the spirits. Less than £30.00 for Michelin starred fabulous food. How do they do it? A tortelloni of langoustine as an amuse-bouche, then a carpaccio of smoked haddock with lightly boiled quails eggs.
An assiette of pork followed, then cheese and a mint parfait. Hand made chocolates with the coffee made me wish I'd eaten less so I could have had more. The service at The Cardinal could be a bit more smiley, but it is efficient and sleek neverthless. Overall I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
The Capital is still amazing. My friends said it was good though although the wine list took some looking at as it was huge. Which is a good thing and the staff did offer to help but we had a wine buff with us. I will go back again soon, as the service at The Capital was great! It is in the perfect shopping location too.
