Despite the low rating, we did try it out for lunch on a Sunday. Aside from the low quality food, it was NOT clean. The tables had not been wiped down. When we asked, the waitress wiped it with a seriously dirty looking sponge. She didn't even bother wiping the entire table - leaving remenants of food from the previous customers. The waitresses were very aloof, clueless and slow. Our drinks came and the glasses were dirty so much so that we asked our children to drink straight from the bottle with straws. Even the fork had a piece of dried food stuck on it. The food was undesirable. The BBQ chicken was dried out. The children's fish fingers definitely came straight out of some cheap frozen food bag. The fries and milk shakes were acceptable. For a restaurant that is serving American food, it lacks the quality and service of an American diner. The food should be juicy and massive. The service should be speedy, efficient and certainly with a smile please! JGS

I have to disagree with everyone of these reviews. I have had some amazing food here, and i keep going back for more. THe service is very friendly this i cannot stress any more. The milkshakes are ORGASMIC the chilli fries comforting and moorish. The burrito , well its the best!!! pay no attention to the snobs. ITs Camden afterall and the diner is most welcome to the crew. GO TRY IT YOURSELVES!!! i recommend the chocolate and peanut butter shake!!!its heavenly.

I am sure you are pleased with the service and food at the diner but it is not polite to label people that had a bad experience as snobs. When I went there was nothing good about either the service or the food, which was cold and tasteless. I am not in the habit of giving places like this repeat custom as they should be able to provide a good diner experience without all of the various issues I experienced. It is strange that all of the reviewers except you had some kind of problem when dining. - Report

I was also pretty disappointed with my visit to The Diner. I love going out for breakfast and have lived in the States where breakfast out is always great so I was keen to try out this new restaurant. In fairness the service was good although I think we were the only people in the place. The music was really loud and as the place was empty it was overwhelming. I ordered a breakfast with bacon and was totally disappointed when one piece of streaky bacon, that had obviously been cooked a while ago, was served cut into 3 pieces to try and give the illusion it was an actual portion. I wish people who open these ‘American Style’ places would actual understand what American Diners are like, it’s not hard, good hot coffee frequently topped up, a good selection of food with generous portions served quickly with a smile!

Patchy service on a busy wet Sunday morning. Staff were seating people under gutters pouring water - bad move. Had run out of chocolate/strawberry/banana milkshakes. Food (from All Day Breakfast menu) took an age to arrive and when it did pancakes were clearly bought in and cold, paltry amounts of bacon, potatoes 'roasted' (doused, more like) in rancid oil. Not good enough when there's plenty of better breakfast/brunch places in Camden.

I agree with other reviewer -

Well after persuading a number of my work colleagues to try a new venue in Camden we were very disappointed. The service was very slow, when the food eventually came in fits and starts the fries came first all cold, then the main part followed after a long interval. We informed the waitress and she said the kitchen was busy and could cook some more but would have to wait . . . we declined but suggested that the bill reflected this. The waitress sent a manager who came to our table and argued that we should pay service and just accept a discount on the fries, when we pointed out that the service was descretionary she flounced off saying she didn't have to deal with this as the Kitchen was busy - basically implying it was out fault we had a bad meal! Needless to say I walked by later in the night and she was outside chatting on her mobile. I wouldn't recommend anyone go there - a shame as was willing to give a new venue some custom and would have returned if good!

about that "service charge", at all The Diner locations they add a service charge, but your server doesnt get any of it, it isnt a tip like you would think, management claims they need it to pay the servers wages, though over a shift the service charges add up to more than they are making hourly. So if you dont add extra on top of that charge, your server doesnt get tipped at all.
If you want to tip your server, ask management to take the service charge off and leave your tip on the table in cash, though understand if you do that your server is risking a tongue lashing from management about it later.

Service...RUBBISH. Had to remind the waitress that i had ordered a drink and wanted it before my meal.

Chicken burger was just salty..RUBBISH

But the Chips were lovely..real american style. Probably the best thing on the menu.

Chocolate Cake was lovely but was served with gone off ice cream...RUBBISH

Only go if u want chips. cocktails are crap. nothing interesting.

Service...super slow

two stars for chips and cake.
