Visited this place 14/06/08 was brilliant. Funky red lanterns decor interior. You need to reserve a table if you want a bite. We got there 8pm and were really lucky to get a table for an hour. I thought before we went that it would prob be possible to have snack food at the bar but there is very little seating/standing room there. Excellent excellent value! Had mojitos for £4.50!! and prawn toast, dumpling etc for just £3/£4 per dish. Music is very funky. Was a kind of danced up reggae beat if that makes any sense! Music gets louder as the night goes on. Very pleasant staff. Well worth heading down for a bite to eat with the gang!
I went to The Drunken Monkey a few weeks ago with a large group of friends (around 20) for a birthday dinner party. We were all very impressed with the extensive cocktail list, and overall we found the the bar staff competent and friendly. The food was great quality, however there was very, very little of it, especially considering we had all paid £15 a head for the set menu and left still feeling hungry! Despite this we still had a great night, and I would definatley return to The Drunken Monkey; however I would not recommend going with a large party to eat as it seems they are unable to adequately cater for big groups.
The Drunken Monkey's clearly a restaurant that doesn't care about its customers! We arrived at 11:50 today, the 18th May '07 to have lunch.
As we entered we were met with disdain and told the kitchen would be open at 12:00. I asked politely whether we could sit and have a drink whilst we waited ten minutes and were told, NO. No apologies. All that whilst the doors were open, tables decked out and all ready to go. Typical rudeness of a restaurant (or management at that time) that get it's clientele just from location, not from service. No more Drunken Monkey for me!
Having been a big fan of the Drunken Monkey for at least two years, I've been quite disappointed to watch the place slowly let standards slip. As commented elsewhere, the waiting staff are often difficult attract, yet there is often a large huddle round the cash register.
On my most recent visit to The Drunken Monkey, having just been sold a round of drinks, the bouncer suddenly called time and tried to evict our table, more aggressively than anywhere else I've been. We were quite a mature group with both males and females, all of whom were surprised by this.
The Drunken Monkey is fantastic. It has a great atmosphere, cool smooth tunes and fantastic food. Booking a table is a must but there is a terrific bar to mill around in as well.
The food here is a real high - light, fresh Asian flavours at a reasonable price. The Drunken Monkey is a great place to eat with a group and share a combination of dishes.
The Drunken Monkey is cool.
Despite our disappointment and not actually seeing a drunken monkey (or any other kind of animal), Drunken Monkey was a great Chinese meal in pub-like surroundings.
Anyone still wanting to see an inebriated primate should maybe sign up for The Discovery Chanel.
The Drunken Monkey was alright when I reached there, it was cool. Spotted some Latino babe behind the bar. Well, now you have my details.
