The steak sandwich was very good, but the good food didn't make up for the fact that the staff were rude and thought themselves above the customers.
Upon asking for condiments to accompany said sandwich I was basically screamed at for being working class (at least that's what it looked like was going on in the waitress's head).
Please don't ask if there is any kind of potato accompaniment to anything, they have a lynch in the corner for just this type of question. Soz sir, I was jus' askin' 4 sum catsup.
I booked a table for lunch (in our lunch hour so only had an hour) at 12pm only to be told when we arrived that food is actually not served until 12.30pm!
When I asked why we had not been told when we booked the manager was incredibly rude to us and not the slightest bit apologetic.
His attitude was that he didn't care and obviously thought his pub is so much better than it actually is.
It strikes me as the sort of place that couldn't care less about their customers!! We left so I can't comment on the food.
I have always been served what I wanted by very kind staff.
The food is brilliant and the atmosphere fantastic. I cannot belive the bad reviews are from the same place.

I have been going here in the evening for a long time and although it can vary as staff rotate I am surprised at all the negative reviews.
The staff have always been nice to me and I always look forward to the food - of course it's just good food and no frills so may not suit people looking for a 'night out', nor is it a boozer's pub which comes as a relief after trying a slug and lettuce type establishment.
I will keep on going back as often as possible.
I went there for lunch and I will never go back the manager was the rudest man I have ever meet in my entire life.
The service was slow my dad had finished his meal before mine even arrived, when it did it was not what I ordered.
I was then asked if I couldn't just eat what they had given. When I complained to the manager he asked what I was complaining about, "you have your food now what's the problem this is a pub not a restaurant you can't expect your food to be served together.
Perhaps in future you should try not to mumble when you make your order"The food tasted nice once it arrived, but the pub left a very sour taste in my mouth. The worst pub in London.
This place is shambolic!!
A real shame because from the outside it looks like a real gem, the sad reality was that there was nothing left on the menu at 8:30pm (!!). Staff had an arrogant smugness that you might expect from a 5 star restaurant in Paris, not from an East End London pub! It wasn't just the attitude, the food was average and the waiters were really very bad at their job.
Get over yourselves, this is really a very average pub!
Staff are rude. First and last time I will be going.
Nobody would blame this pub if it stopped serving at 9pm, or even 10. But it carries on far beyond its ability to offer proper service or good - even palatable - food.
When my skate and veg finally arrived (it was the only thing left on the menu) it was cold, bony and would have been inedible had there had been more than two mouthfuls to it. The best that can be said is that it did not disrupt my diet. But really, £13 for this achrymorphic mush? It has been a long time since I got something this bad for this much.
I've eaten the lamb here in the daytime and it was fine (not great but fine); but this place should know its limits. At 10.30pm I would have been happier to be turned down on the food if it meant having more than one poor beleagured barmaid trying to serve 50 people at the bar.
