There’s no doubting that the food at The Evangelist is good, but it’s pretty overpriced for what it is. It is a nice enough place, but to be honest The Evangelist is a bit too steep for me.

I have just returned to The Evangelist after going there for lunch in December. I had a really good time, enjoyed the food and thought The Evangelist was definitely above average for the time of year.

I am so pleased that it seems the same all year round. Again the food was great and although it was quiet we had a really good time. I will see what the rest of the year brings and hope that The Evangelist keeps up the good work. Ps: The rioja is fabulous.

There's a reason The Evangelist is listed in the top drinking but not eating list due to the nature of many of the other establishments in the area. I used to frequent The Evangelist, probably much more than I should have! Here's the deal, the table service is awful, yes, awful. The servers themselves are generally nice human beings, but I have had numerous occasions where I've had to flag down a server for every single step of my meal - once I sat for 45 minutes after being seated before my order was even taken. Also, they used to provide fresh French bread, balsamic vinegar and oil before you received your (always slow) meal but they've now replaced it with SLICED bread and butter and they CHARGE YOU £1 for the honour of not eating it.
If you don't care at all about customer service (the food is pretty good) and you think it's worth a go anyway then go to The Evangelist
(Ever notice that the only thing your server will ALWAYS remember to do is add a 'Service Not Included' note to your bill?).
