The ViewLondon Review
Tucked away on a quiet street around the corner from Fulham Broadway, The Farm has added a touch of sophistication since 2004 and has quickly become one of the most talked about pubs in the area. The VenueAdding a bit of West End style to a road with little on it besides a post office is The Farm. From the outside it looks like just another upmarket pub, but go inside and you’ll find it’s more that; as a large dining area in the back will attest.
This gastropub consists of three separate areas - a bar, lounge and restaurant area, decorated in dark oak with luxurious leather seating throughout. Impressive interior and restaurant aside, it does appear to be rather pretentious at times.
The AtmosphereThe Farm attracts a mix of people from suits to trendy locals, but even though it gets packed in the evenings - especially at the weekends - it can be hit and miss atmosphere wise. On occasion it can seem slightly characterless and the bold interior gives off an air of coldness. Given it’s a little on the pricey side, it doesn’t have that warm, laid back feel it perhaps set out to. On the other hand, there are times when this pub really delivers on atmosphere, teaming with people and even having live music from a piano player.
The FoodThe menu takes inspiration from classic French dishes but, disappointingly, like the bar area it can be hit and miss. Exceptional dishes can be let down by poor service or careless presentation but other times every aspect is excellent. The dining area also welcomes children, which is an obvious bonus for people with young families. Unfortunately, they don’t offer a children’s menu.
The DrinkWith a well considered selection of cocktails, wines and spirits as well as freshly squeezed fruit juices, you’re spoilt for choice here. However, the small bar area means you could be waiting a while to be served on a busy night.
The Last WordThe Farm has all the ingredients to become a top class pub and restaurant. With some extra consideration and consistency it could easily reach its full potential.
