I went to the Fat Badger last week, to meet a friend who has been raving about the place for ages. So we met in the bar and for a drink before we ate, and then went upstairs to the dining room with the intention of having just the one course but were enticed into all three. The service was briliant and the food was even better. After our meal we were meant to go into central London to a posh cocktail bar, but thought better of it and stayed at the bar until last orders. The Fat Badger is a great pub with briliant food and friendly service.
I have to say I have read some up and down reviews of the Badger and I completely disagree. There seems to be such a negative about Notting Hill lately and although it's totally understandable, this isn't a part of that scene.
I was in The Fat Badger for the first time in a while on Saturday and it was as wonderful as I left it before a recent trip. The food was awesome. I started with the grilled mackeral with ginger which was mouth watering. Followed by the Bavette with girolles. Perfectly cooked and amazing chips.
The wine list has been upgraded and they now have some great white wines. I spoilt myself with a bottle of Cloudy Bay which is crazy expensive but just so rare I couldn't help myself. It does seem that a few of the staff have changed, which maybe a good thing as the service has got a lot better.
I have been lucky to meet the owners a few times who are lovely, so go on boys, job well done. They also let me know that they are showing Wimbledon on the big screen with cheap Pimms. There goes my overdraft.
Went to the Fat Badger today, 20th May '07.
Food overpriced, overcooked and bland. Service awful. About right for Notting Hill!
Bar not too bad, not pretentious. On the plus side they have board games.
This Badger should be put out of its misery.
I took a group of friends there last weekend and was unbelievably disappointed. It wasn't that we had anticipated a restaurant and found a gastropub or expected high end and discoverd faux earthy cuisine, it was just bad!
The menu promised some interest but failed to deliver. The same dishes came with different ommissions, all the dishes were tossed togther in a haphazard way, and we had to resort to getting up to fetch specialised pices of cutlery like spoons as they failed to arrive on the third time of asking. There was no pride in preparation or presentation.
The service was ghastly - inattentive sullen, rude and slow. The bill took an hour to come, and other stuff just never arrived. The staff did however have time to hang out, chat, be sulkily Notting Hill, where I live by the way, lest you feel this rant is regionally prejudiced!
Overall, I was left with the sense that the Fat Badger fancies itself too much to care about the food, its customers and their experience. There are so many good restaurants nearby that do basic as well as high end food well, but with respect for the people paying for it. I hope the discerining will go elswhere. Fat Badger was awful.
What to say about the Fat Badger? The food is great, the place is beautiful and the Fat Badger waiter is a superman. I love that place!
I had a great Sunday Roast at The Fat Badger last week with Yorkshire pudding to die for. The Fat Badger is a great addition to the area at last.
I visited the Fat Badger on Sunday evening purely by chance and it paid off. Whilst I waited for a friend I spoke to loads of friendly people who were raving about the food. I unfortunately didn't get the chance to eat but I've got my eye on a pork crackling and apple sauce dish, which I think sounds divine.
I was also impressed by the bar staff, who were so friendly and knowledgable. They were keen to guide my wine choice responding to personal taste. There was nothing I didn't like about The Fat Badger and would recommend it to all.
Although I live in Shepherd's Bush, I have sampled the delights of The Fat Badger four times since it opened last month as it's only three tube stations away from the Bush. Staff are nice and attitude-free and the friendly atmosphere with a good mix of locals and people come here for lunch or after-work drinks.
The Fat Badger has rather a cool and good looking crowd. Also, the food is worth trying. They do nice all-day-breakfasts with some of the best bacon sausages and their menu is quite impressive.
