The Fire Stables is something of a destination venue, being Michelin Guide Recommended people tend to make the journey here to dine on the quality gastropub fare. However, even without the food it’s a decent drinking hole in an area where competition between pubs is high.

The Venue
Set in the heart of trendy Wimbledon Village, the Fire Stables is a friendly bar housing a massive plasma screen showing all live sporting events. The decor is made up of tasteful feature lighting and lush planting with beautiful orchids peeping out between the foliage. With lots of light-reflecting mirrors the pub appears light and airy, and with squashy leather seating you may find yourself in no hurry to leave. Open gas fires make a cosy feature in the winter and a back garden a pleasant escape in the summer.

A self-proclaimed gastropub, The Fire Stables also has a dining area located at the back, that overlooks the attractive aforementioned garden.

The Atmosphere
With laid back soul and mellow background music, there is a relaxed air here, perpetuated by the friendly staff. The main clientele at the Fire Stables are the twentysomethings and, being in such an affluent area, you’ll discover a sophisticated set of punters here. Being Michelin Guide Recommended you’ll also find people making a point to visit and dine.

The Food
The food at the Fire Stables is high quality gastropub food with a Michelin recommendation. Well priced, starters range from just £5 for such traditional offerings as chicken liver parfait with red onion marmalade. Mains cost from just £9.50 with a good choice of fish and veggie dishes, which makes a refreshing change for pub grub. Desserts are slightly pricier for its category at £5 - sticky toffee pudding with ice cream is the most popular choice. A reasonably priced set menu of two courses for £12.50 and three courses for £15.50 is also on offer, which makes for a very affordable meal out.

The Drink
Peroni, Fosters, Amstel, Heineken and Guinness are all available on draught with Becks, Corona and non-alcoholic beers in bottles. There are also a couple of choices of bitter. Spirits cost around £3.90 with a mixer with premiums available.

Worthy of note is the large wine list, consisting of over 30 bottles and nine Champagnes. House wine costs just £17.45 a bottle. A bottle of pink Sancerre is £28, white Chablis £29 and a red Burgundy is £32.

The Last Word
A trendy bar with a high-end interior, good food and a very pleasant ambience. Highly recommended.
