The Garden Cafe sounds like it sound be filled with wild, colourful flowers and overgrown plants. Unfortunately it doesn’t live up to expectations. In fact it actually comes up well short.

The Venue
Running parallel with Carnaby Street you’ll find Newburgh Street, a narrow little road with many little shop faces running down it. One of those shop faces is that of The Garden Cafe, a small cafe serving an array of different foods and a small selection of drinks. The cafe has quite a bit of depth to it, but it’s very narrow. In order to make the venue feel more open they’ve used a couple of large mirrors on either wall to create the illusion of space.

The Atmosphere
The Garden Cafe is a dull spot for lunch. The atmosphere is only as good as whatever happens to be playing on the radio which is a great shame because with a name like The Garden they could easily turn this into something very special. The staff are very laid back in their approach and don’t seem to care much for their customers or their job.

The Food
There’s quite a lot to choose from. You’ll find pizzas, pasta, fish and chips, a variety of curries, jacket potatoes and crepes on the menu as well as an all day breakfast. The salad is extremely vinegary and the burger and chips don’t look very appetising either.

The Drink
There are a small selection of juices, canned soft drinks and wines, but nothing out of the ordinary and nothing too special.

The Last Word
There are an enormous range of cafes to choose from in and around the Carnaby Street area that offer so much more; it’s a wonder why anyone would choose the Garden Cafe over the competition.
