The ViewLondon Review
Clapham isn’t short of a decent pub or ten. However, The Grey Goose manages to hold its head up high, being one of the jewels in the crown of Clapham’s thriving nightlife. Be sure to check out the stunning outdoor pergola – a real sight to behold. The VenueThe Grey Goose is one of the jewels in the crown of Clapham’s buzzing nightlife. Their outdoor space is a pretty covered pergola so, come rain or shine, you're able to enjoy some fresh air. Twinkling fairylights are dotted across the decking to create a romantic ambience.
The interior is equally impressive. The decor is attractive with bold colours on the walls to create an intimate feel, alongside trendy artwork and beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. Upstairs is the Blue Room (appropriately named due to its colour), which comes complete with comfy leather sofas, a second bar and beautiful original features such as the stunning art nouveau fireplace. This room is available for private hire and caters for up to 100 people.
The AtmosphereThe Grey Goose is a sophisticated pub without being intimidating and posey. Thanks to its proximity to Clapham Common, it is not only visited by local residents and workers but also people who are just visiting this cosmopolitan suburb. There are regular events held here, including a quiz night every Tuesday, live jazz once a month on a Sunday and stand-up comedy once a month on Thursdays.
The FoodThe food at the Grey Goose is well conceived and delicious with all meat delivered direct from Appleton Farm in Oxfordshire. Starters cost from £4 for a leek and potato soup with other options including wild mushroom and creamy Roquefort sauce on toast (£6) or mussels (a slightly pricier £9.50).
For mains, an 8oz Angus beefburger with Monterey Jack cheese, chips and salad is a very reasonable £8.50, or a goats cheese tart with onion jam and mixed leaves is £7. Pan fried sea bream fillet with Moroccan ratatouille, watercress and a pesto dressing is just £12. Puddings are also available from £4.50 for a chocolate cheesecake and vanilla ice cream, or a cheese plate with fruit and biscuits is £7.
The DrinkDeuchars, Bombardier, Staropramen, Leffe, Stella, Kronenbourg, Fosters and San Miguel are all available on draght here with a good choice of bottled beers also stocked.
There is a comprehensive wine list with 19 whites in total. Prices start at £12.95 for a French Chardonnay, rising to £28.50 for a bottle of French Chablis. There are also 17 choices of red with a French Grenache starting at £12.95, rising to £26.50 for a bottle of French Chatreau Chaminey. There is less choice for Rose lovers, only three in total with an Italian Pinot Grigio at £15.75 and an Italian Amano Rosato at £18.75 a bottle. Cava is a mere £17.95 a bottle, Prosecco is £22.50 and Mumm rose NV Champagne £45.
The Last WordA little oasis in the heart of Clapham. A sophisticated interior with real attention to detail, a stunning outdoor pergola and the added advantage of quality entertainment means the Grey Goose is not to be missed.
