Very expensive pub food, and terrible service . The burger was nice, but I think charging an "optional" 12.5% service charge when you order and pay at the counter is pure arrogance and profiteering. The service was terrible, with the burger only coming in two options, pink or well done, and taking almost 40 minutes to arrive. I was brought the wrong order at first, and then another 10 minutes later, when the burger did finally appear, there was no cutlery, napkins or sauces with it. The manager gave an insencere apology after I complained, but I won't be going here again.

A great spot next to the river, quite a mission to get to but once you're there it's worth it! We had a lazy Saturday lunch on their terrace, great Bloody Mary, great views, great (huge) burger! Highly recommended if you're in docklands/cw area and fancy something different.

It's got history going back to Horatio Nelson, good beer, good wine and good food. It has two indoor bars, a real fire, and an outdoors bit right next to the Thames facing the Millenium Dome or whatever it's called now. Coldharbour is a bit of a walk through the zombie-zone from Canary Wharf but it's well worth outrunning some hoodies to get there and enjoy your beer while you contemplate Nord Nelson having 3's ups with Lady Hamilton and her husband after a few too many celebrations at The Gun. No really. They did.

we had a private party booking in the river room. The food, service and the room were 5 star, we had a really wonderful evening and i would highly recommend this experience.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful... The food, the drink, and the staff are all wonderful.

I had such a lovely evening here with my husband recently.

He had been before after work with friends from 'the wharf', but it was my first (of many, I hope), and thoroughly enjoyed everything.

Sadly, having had a couple of drinks in here previously and really loved the place, I decided to go recently for the bar food. When the fish pie arrived, I suspected something might be wrong by the anaemic potato lid- it didn't look like it had seen an oven, never mind the fact we had been waiting over 40minutes.

As it was, it was stone cold in the middle, and barely warm round the edges.Having sent it back, I had the pleasure of watching my friend eat her welsh rarebit, which she did enjoy. I also had my chips to eat, which are undoubtably delicious.

Around 15minutes later, the fish pie came back. Still anaemic, still only lukewarm in the middle. Having spoken to the manager about it, he told me he'd come to my table to see. He managed to pop over around another 10 minutes later, not particularly bothered by the fact that the kitchen of his gastropub can't even heat up a fish pie.

He offered us a free glass of wine, which was accepted with a sigh - but really, it's not the point is it?I love the feel of the place, the drinks are good, it's not unreasonably priced, the open fires are lovely, but on this occasion the food - which for a gastropub is supposed to be central - was a real disappointment.I will try it again, and advise others to do so as well, but on this occasion, it just wasn't up to the job.

A fantastic bar - an open fire and surprisingly comfy chesterfields make this venue perfect for a winters afternoon. All that's missing are the smoking jackets and velvet slippers. The patio is a great spot in the summer but does catch the wind - you almost feel you are on a boat on the river.

A nice selection of bar snacks; pistachio's, cashews spicy rice crackers etc) and though I have yet to eat a full meal here I look forward to the chance soon. The drinks are comparable with other bars in Canary Wharf but The Gun offers so much more. A great atmosphere with tastefully decorated rooms oozing class (not sure about the end room with the strange naval murals - but they are - interesting?!).

I regularly go to the Gun and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Rates for private hire are reasonable and I look forward to planning an event here.

We recently held a party at The Gun. The staff were amazing - helpful, on the ball and made for a seemless evening. The terrance outside has heated lamps, and the view across The Thames is lovely.

The canapes were brilliant - large servings, fresh and everyone commented on the high quality of the food and the service. All in all a fabulous evening and we would highly recommend The Gun for any function - a fabulous night with great staff and great food.

I went to The Gun for the first time the other day for a friend birthday party.
The canapés were delicious, very fitting for a proper British pub. Good extensive wine list and a nice selection of beers which is always a thumbs up! The view from the terrace is fantastic.
I was quite impressed by The Gun to say the least. I’m even thinking I may use it myself for a get together.

I think The Gun is great.

It is well worth the trip and if your local then lucky you.
The Gun serves delicious quality food, with traditional British dishes such as game pie that I tried last autumn and I can’t wait for the game season to be back this year so I can sample the pie again.
A Grelha is The Gun’s Portuguese bbq that is all out on the deck over looking the river, also serving delicious food in such great surroundings, amazing views.
I really enjoy going to The Gun with friends for a long lazy Sunday lunch, it also is a great venue for entertaining clients as it is far more interesting and diverse especially compared to the drab choices of eateries that you have in Canary Wharf.

The Gun comes highly recommended in my book!

Well... I have to say I totally disagree with the below review. I think The Gun has fantastic quality food, I enjoy entertaining clients here and they are always appreciative of a different location with such amazing view.
The food is always tasty, well presented and value for money and I do agree that the staff are friendly and also attentive I would say.

I will defiantly be back to The Gun

I just returned fron The Gun and i have to say, I am very disappointed about the food there.
I had a burger with chips, 12 Quid, and it is sure no value for money.
The burger bun tasted old and dry, the chips where oily and to dark, soggy, suer they have not changed the oil in the deep fryer for a while.....
The burger was not minced propperly, to many big chunks inside and not seasoned well.
I likes the rocket and the onion jam...
Sure the pub itself is great and the staff is friendly, but there kitchen team is letting them down....

I think The Gun must be one of my favourite pubs in London.
Fantastic decor, a great mix; with the traditional pub with the 200+ year old bar (the barman told me) next to the clean crisp tables in the dining room and the open fires in the back great in the winter time.

But at this time of year the terraces at The Gun have to be my favourite, one with a fabulous Portuguese bbq grill yum! And the other where you can sample the delights of the dining room.

As you can tell I am a regular and a fan and will definitely be back!

Bring on the sunshine.

I went to The Gun recently and had such a nice dinner, the atmosphere was charged and bubbly and it is such a nice venue. It is a little ways out, but totally worth it for a nice evening.
I would definitely reccommend this place.

GREAT place, perfect for a get together for drinks and bits to eat that aren't the size of a pea, but instead hearty and delicious! Try the mini Cumberland suasages or the mini cheeseburgers - so tasty!

Just the perfect place when you are looking for a comfy sofa to sit in whilst enjoying a drink infront of an open fire.... Before that though, have lunch in the restaurant. The food is not like your typical pub food- oily and flavourless, the ingredients are fresh and presentation is really good. I will definitely be going back!

What a hidden gem! The Gun has food that is as great as its service and atmosphere. The fab terrace is just a bonus! I had the most expensive item on the menu, which was a fantasic rib eye steak for £16.50, so I don't agree with people saying The Gun is overpriced.

The food is good, the service gets better and better, and the atmosphere is very warm at The Gun. The terrace is amazing, even if it is cold, as they have great heaters and with enough glasses of wine under the belt you don't even notice the cold. I look forward to the lit fires in The Gun soon!

I think The Gun just fed me some grass and pine nut puree, served under the ambiguous title of dip. I would stick to the drinks at The Gun if I were you.

The Gun is fabulous. We were recommended it by friends who discovered it recently. The location is amazing - right on the river opposite the Millenium Dome. We came for Sunday lunch and had roast beef followed by crumble and bread and butter pudding.

The service was great - inobtrusive and friendly. We will certainly be back for more cosy Sunday lunches at The Gun.

The Gun is a great pub - small, stylish without pretension and full of character. My only complaint is that you can't book tables for the gastro pub menu, only the a la carte. The area for eating from the pub menu is tiny which is a total shame as the a la carte menu was a complete disappointment for all my dining companions.

The food was designed with style over substance and quality. It is also very cheeky and arrogant to automatically charge a 20 percent service charge and be told that if you didn't want to pay it the matter should be discussed with your waiter. Service charges should be discretionary. These people already receive a wage and should not demand money especially when they are rude and arrogant. If they took out or reduced the size of the a la carte area The Gun would be fab.

The Gun is included in many guides so we were really looking forward to it. The starters were mediocre. The roasts looked great but were stone cold and the meat was far too bloody for all of us. We sent the food back. It duly arrived five minutes later straight from the microwave. The beef was utterly tasteless both before and after and the lamb was too fatty. The Yorkshire puddings were hard on the bottom. The vegetables were okay but were ruined by the microwave. Our vegetarian companion was the only one who enjoyed her meal.

After this we were reluctant to have a pudding, but we did. The pear and apple crumble was okay but nothing special and the pavlova had a wonderful berry sauce but the meringue was too hard. Overall the food The Gun was very poor for the money. We wouldn’t go back. The service was the only positive.

I’m afraid that my visit to The Gun was an absolute disaster. This is clearly a wonderful riverside venue, but the food was an overpriced disappointment. My £27.00 main course of roast suckling pig came with a noxious treacle sauce and an irritating mismatch of sour orange compote and half raw fennel. Despite the high prices, you still had to pay £5.00 extra for a few boiled potatoes.

The supposed Eton Mess came with an impressively long hair – thrown in for free. And the wine arrived lukewarm. The Gun gave me one of the worst and most overpriced meals I’ve had in a long time.

I love The Gun! It is simply fabulous. I felt like a proper old sea dog here, as the nautical theme is carried throughout the restaurant and bar. After a few drinks you could be out in the ocean for real. The Gun has been lovingly restored and the care and attention they've taken is evident. This place is a gem - proper pirate's treasure!

The Gun is a wonderful gastropub!

The food is delicious, and the service is great!
It's great to arrange big parties here, as your guests don't have to wait for the food or drinks!
The pub is quite big too, but still very cozy and charming. The terrace is fabulous with its great view of the Millennium dome.

It's great and worth the trip!

The Gun is a superb gastropub I think. As well as serving excellent food it also has got the balance right for drinkers too - far too many gastropubs these days seem to be all gastro and no pub!
