I went for a birthday dinner to the renovated Hill bar and had an excellent time. We ate in the garden - beautifully renovated and with full dinner service! we moved inside later and had some beautiful desserts and even a specially recommended dessert wine from our waiter who had been so accommodating all evening. we were a large group that regular pubs find a bit hard to handle sometimes and the waitress and bar staff were completely unfazed and so enthusiastic. the menu is amazing - but the bar snacks alone make it worth a visit! All in all a really spectacular place and just what the area needed - it would be wonderful to get this kind of service and menu across london but for now I will just be a happy regular customer at The Hill! Can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you!

Had not been to The Hill for a sometime but had noticed that it had a refurb recently so went in last night with 2 friends to give it a try.

The old pub, that did have its charm (just a little unloved in recent times), has been given a great face-lift and opened up the space and transformed in to more of a bar/restaurant now in a very good way.

For dinner we shared some starters. We had a Tuna Carpaccio which was served with a little Asian noodle salad, very tasty, as well as the Mackerel Fishcakes. These were served on some greens and came with a sweet chutney. Delish!

For mains I had the fillet steak (when you need a steak YOU NEED A STEAK). One friend had a salmon burger that she said was "amazing and really fresh" and my other friend had a Quinoa Salad with grilled chicken breast which looked great and I will be having next time if I don't need another steak at the time.

The service was really friendly and our waitress Michelle was really helpful with helping us choose what to have.

Another one of the things we loved was that they have carafes of wine which is really great so that we were all able to drink the wine we wanted rather than share the same one.

The place was pretty busy when we walked in but it wasn't until later that we found out that, actually, everyone was out in the garden off to the side of the bar. This area has also been totally done up to create an outdoor space that is perfect for both al fresco dining or just a drink.

10 out of 10 from all of us. We will be returning very soon.

It's great to see the love back at the Hill. The new decor is has made a huge difference to the atmosphere and the garden is now a relaxing oasis rather than the jungle of a few months ago.

We had a wonderful dinner with a very cheery waitress and finished the evening sipping champagne on the new terrace under the awnings.

The bill was less than expected and I will now be one of their regulars.

Nice going "The Hill"....

The Hill, prior to getting refurbished in the past couple of months, was a favourite in my area. Cozy, good cuisine. New decor makes it look like every other gastropub and the waitress was eager to tell me that there was a new chef. Menu looks like every other dull gastropub: burger, fish and chips yawn yawn yawn.

Starters had squid - 6 pieces of.
main, chicken was under cooked. Fries from age old oil.

Waitress incompetent though she did try.
Major fail.

It seems to me that if you visit a new venue in it's first week of trade you have to expect a few hick-ups. I have been here several times and could not disagree with you more.

PS. I am looking at the menu online and strangely they don't have fish & chips... are you sure you went to the same place?
