A North London treasure, The Junction Tavern is full of character and offers a diverse, daily-changing menu and a great selection of ales and wines.

The Venue
The Junction Tavern is situated moments away from Tufnell Park station on a leafy corner of Fortess Road. When you enter the pub, to the left there’s a formal dining area with an open kitchen and, on the right, you will find the bar with its charming, dark wood panelled look. Further to the right there’s a cosy conservatory with subdued lighting and a reasonably sized garden, equipped with heaters. Each section has its own characteristics, which lend themselves to different occasions, creating a pub that suits all.

The Atmosphere
The bar and garden is always buzzing with young locals, whilst the dining area attracts families and couples. When the pub is busy, service can sometimes be haphazard but the staff are always cheery and welcoming, helping to create a laid-back and friendly atmosphere.

The Food
The menu has a Mediterranean feel to it, with a focus on seasonal produce and top notch ingredients. There’s always an exciting choice of fish and vegetarian dishes that never fails to impress, such as the textural sensation known as the warm lentil, chicory and ricotta salad (£5.50), or the perfectly cooked sea bream with earthy olives, juicy fennel and a mild romesco sauce (£14.50). If you fancy some meat, then you can tuck into the menu staple - a chargrilled rib eye steak and hand-cut chips (£15), or opt for more innovative dishes, such as the lamb tagine with cracked wheat, spinach, yogurt and harissa (£13.50), a gloriously spiced and delicate version of the traditional North African dish.

Desserts tend to be a lot more straightforward, with the likes of good old apple crumble, sticky toffee pudding and strawberry pavlova, all of which are priced at £5.50 and are guaranteed to hit the sweet spot.

The Drink
There’s a good choice of beers and ales available, including 4-5 rotating guest ales from regional breweries, priced at £3. These are supplied by the likes Sambrookes and Tring. The wine list is also well thought out and you can choose from 11 whites, 11 reds and a selection of rose, Prosecco, Champagne and dessert wine. Prices start at £4 for a glass of house wine and £14 for a bottle.

The Last Word
Tufnell Park residents are oh so lucky to have this charming gastro pub on their doorstep. With its friendly staff, varied interior and wonderful food, you can’t help but enjoy a visit to The Junction Tavern.
