We have eaten at the Knaypa on several occasions and recently made a booking for a dinner with family that was visiting from abroad. When we arrived at 7.20 pm on a Friday evening, to our surprise, the whole upstairs dining area had been turned into a conference room and although the restaurant was open nobody attended to us.
We made our way inside and enquired about our booking - the waitress appeared puzzled and called the manager. In the meantime she began hastily preparing a table for us - squashed in the corner of the make-shift conference room and facing the wall (!). The flustered manager arrived shortly afterwards and confirmed that they had our booking, but could not accommodate us in any other part of the restaurant as they were preparing for a wedding reception the day after. He could not understand why we were dissatisfied. We had booked a week in advance and upon arrival we were not expecting to dine in the corner of someone's noisy business conference room. After asking why we were not notified by phone of the large conference (as we would not have bothered travelling to Hammersmith otherwise!) the manager's unprofessional response was 'I cannot possibly call everyone about the bookings'. After having made hundreds of booking in various London restaurants, my experience is that the good ones always call a day before to confirm the booking or inform about any changes.
The Knaypa advertises on their website that it is 'Probably the best Polish Restaurant'. After the reception we received, it's safe to say it definitely isn't the best Polish restaurant. It appears that the Knaypa is trying to position itself as the top end restaurant (with a revised menu and a 12.5% service charge) while its staff and management lack the skills and knowledge to provide top quality customer service. We left the restaurant, carefully stepping over the loose laptop power cords running across the restaurant entrance (a major safety hazard) -will not come back!
In April I had my wedding reception in "The Knaypa". The food was adequater. The drinks were too expensive. The room downstairs doesn't fit 40 people there were 30 of us and we were just able to fit. All of our requirements were not fulfilment. It ruined our beautiful day. We were extremely disappointment. We would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
It was my first visit to the Kanypa and not the last one - we already made plans to come back. The complimentary smalec with a selection of Polish bread is a nice touch whilst you contemplate the well thought out menu of traditional and modern Polish dishes. The Polish Steak Tartar was well presented and delicious, shot of vodka on the side. Warm, friendly, efficient and unobtrusive service with attention to detail. Highly recommended place especially if you are new to a Polish cuisine.
Visiting the restaurant for my friends birthday last night. There were 15 of us. Food was nothing special, very overpriced for what it was. Service was slow and the waitress was extremely rude. Talking and insulting us in Polish!!! We tried to contact the manager by telephone who didnt speak English and then hung up. We brought our own birthday cake and asked if we could have it at the end of the meal, they had the cheek to try and charge us £30 for this 'privelige'. Unbelievable. Obviously we refused. On the whole a very dissapointing birthday meal. Would never return or recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!
Being Polish myself, I can authoritatively say that this is the best Polish food in this neck of the woods!
Even the dishes that are not my personal favourites (and which I wouldn't have back at home) were so delicious that I would help myself to my mates' portions...
Everything is fresh, carefully prepared and served with a charming smile - a big thank you to the staff who are truly welcoming and attentive.
Will go back for my taste of home often and will bring my native friends around as well:))
The Knaypa truly is a great experince. We booked a table last weekend and although the restaurant was fully packed on both floors the service was attentive and very helpful. The restaurant has the coolest interior design you're ever likely to find, gorgeous food, excellent service and all completely affordable. You must go!
We went for A new year party and was disaster, first of all were too many people squeezed in two long tables so we wereN't able to move around , the music Performance that day was terrible , owner of The Knaypa was not prepared at all for that big party. It was the worst new year party I have ever went to I would not recommend The Knaypa for anybody
We visited this restaurant at Lunchtime Fri 13th June and had a lovely meal. the food was very nice and the service was excellent. A nice clean well presented restaurant - good value for money. The Polish waitress was extremely welcoming and did everything for us. Would definately revisit the next time in London.
The Knaypa was a lovely restaurant. We were seated immediately, the food was delicious, the service friendly and and helpfull. Great location also being only 3 minutes walk from Ravenscourt Park Station. Will go back.
