The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, good food, friendly efficient service from Shaun & Daniel. Would definitely return.
We popped in here for a visit before the theatre. We liked the fact that this is a bar as well as a restaurant and the atmosphere was good even for an early evening meal. I Was pleasantly impressed that they had arranged a menu for my intolerances and didn't make me feel like a bit of pain like many do. Also they were very flexible with making changes to a dish if I wanted so I felt very happy and comfortable with the service. The food was delicious so we will definitely be going back again!!!

I recently moved into the Wimbledon area and was looking fro a nice place to have a meal. After reading a few negative reviews below - I must admit i had 2nd thoughts about giving the Lambourne a try. I however took a chance and was amazed by what I found. We were greeted by the manager who offered us drink at the bar before going through for our meal. The bar felt very cosy. As my partner and I aren't very big cocktail drinkers, we decided to have one as they all looked so tasty. We found the staff to be very knowledgeable and helpful which is a credit to the management of the Lambourne.
Great British food, served by friendly and attentive staff. We went for the pre theatre menu which was great value and delicious. It went very smoothly, we didn't feel rushed yet we were served and finished within the hour which gave a relaxed walk to the theatre, despite the restaurant being full. The bar and restaurant were full, so I would recommend booking. All round excellent meal, Attentive service, really nice food and pleasant atmosphere. Would recommend.
I took my parents to The Lambourne at the weekend and was amazed that we've lived around here for so long and never been in before!
We had the Sunday roast which was fantastic, my mum (a veggie) had Mushroom risotto which was also very nice.
The restaurant was nicely laid out, with an attractive wooden bar area attached to it, next time we might just come for drinks!
All in all a nice little place, gets a thumbs up from us!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Lambourne for Sunday lunch with my family. We had never been before but heard some good things from friends and fortunately for us, it turned out that they were right!
Despite the fact that the place was pretty packed out, we felt the service was friendly and approachable from the start. Tucked away at the bottom of Wimbledon Broadway, the restaurant has a nice cosy feel to it.
As a bit of a roast snob, I find that more often than not restaurants will get it wrong, with either dried out meat or fairly tasteless veg, the food we were served at the Lambourne however was excellent. The roast beef was tender and rare and the gravy was delicious. Everyone we were with remarked on the quality of the food and for the price we felt it was excellent value for money. Not having tried any of the mains I can't vouch for them as of yet, but we will certainly be back to try out the menu on the basis of what we experienced on our visit.
I can give the place my full recommendations and would encourage other people to give it a go!
My wife and I were having dinner last Saturday and loved the food.
All the waiters were very attentive with us and the food was served promptly despite the restaurant being full.
Before deciding to go we looked at several reviews about the restaurant and despite the one negative review we decided to give the restaurant a try. We found the whole dining experience to be fantastic and we would definitely go back.
Hands down the best meal, i have experienced in a long time. The service was outstanding, food was nicely presented - best steaks in Wimbledon. Great value for money. Would definitely go back. Highly recommended.
It was the second time we have eaten there and yet again, the service was excellent, the food was brilliant and the atmosphere was perfect for the event we were celebrating. Would definitely go there again and recommend it to other people.
We went to the Lambourne last Monday and were impressed with the staff and food from start to finish. We had been recommended a visit by a friend so we thought we would go along and try it out.
We arrived without a booking and were immediately acknowledged by the barman who promptly asked if we wanted a drink and showed us the menu, including the specials of the day. After a quick drink in the bar area we went through to the dining area, where we were greeted by a really bubbly waitress who made us feel welcome, which was quite refreshing as there were only four other people eating at the same time.
I ordered the calamari to start and my wife chose the goat’s cheese and roasted fig tart from the specials. I then had the rib eye steak with the hand cut chips and my wife the mackerel fillets. As I am not one for a dessert I just had a coffee whilst my wife had the treacle tart. All the food was well presented and tasty.
The waitress and barman both checked in with us at the table to ask how our meals were and to offer drinks. They were both friendly and efficient and made us feel like we had been before and were dining with an old friend.
We will definitely go back and look forward to our future visits. Thank you for a good meal.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!! Worst dining experience ever!!! Booked through top-table for my anniversary with a 50% of main courses. When we arrived, we informed to a waiter about our reservation, but that we would first have some drinks at the bar. There, instead of charging the drinks to the bill they asked us to pay them immediately. Then when we sat down, we told again about the offer that we booked to another waiter and he said we would get 50% off the mains. We ordered Steak and pork, and for 17 pounds the steak was just a steak, with exactly 8 fries!! no salad, no bread, nothing else. The pork was a tiny piece with a tiny bit of mash potato, and i had to leave a half on the plate because it was all fat!!! The waiters kept coming and coming to the table to check if everything was OK, which was quite annoying to have then so often! After finishing, we were still starving but it was like 6 pounds for a piece of cake, so we decided to order the bill and leave. The waiter came with the bill with no discount at all and expected us to pay with no explanation. When we said what about the offer, they said we had to order 2 courses EACH. We said that they should have said that at the beginning when we were ordering, so that we would have ordered something else. The manager was extremely rude to us and we were arguing for nearly 20 min with all the rest of the people looking at us! We didn't get an apology, and in the end the manager said the only way to give us a reduction would be to pay for other 6 pounds extra for a piece of bread! He added the bread to the bill and gave it to us in kitchen foil to take away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He sent a waiter to give us the bread and charge for the dinner, and he just diapered, and we left hungry, angry, without an apology and with a 6 pound bread to take away!!!!Will never come back there!!!!!!!! RIP OFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avoid, avoid, avoid! Booked this poor excuse of a restaurant for my dad's Birthday Sat 7th Jan. After waiting at least 30 mins for a server to take our orders, he had to come back at a further 3 times because he had forgotten what we had ordered. After some confusion with how many sirlion steaks there were, we changed one sirlion for a rib eye, but I still ended up with a burger. To make matters worse, it was under cooked and I had an added extra of cling film in my burger, yum! The slow roasted belly of pork that both my brother and dad ordered was a joke, my brothers was pink (dangerous) and my dads was as tough as an old boot. In total, 14 meals were ordered and only 6 were semi edible. Their steaks are tough and full of gristle, the burgers tasteless (the cling film in mine probably had more taste). The service was appalling to say the least, the waiter (ha) was more interested in picking his nose while daydreaming about surfing somewhere I would expect. Since this lousy experience of over priced, meagre portions of inedible food, a few of us have had very dodgy stomachs. The manager, when challenged was very abrupt and insincere in his apology, when told the food was appalling, he replied, "I know". Says it all really. We manged to get a third taken of the bill for drinks and food, but quite frankly, I think it was a cheek to ask us to pay for any of the stuff they tried to pass of as food!
WOW - what a great find! Loved the feel of the place and the staff were very nice, which makes a change as had some bad experiences recently in Wimbledon. We live round the corner so always wanted to try the Lambourne. My boyfriend and I had a drink first. I had a mojito and him a pint. Mine was excellently made with a bit of flair. Then we had a steak and the breast of duck - first class. If I had one complaint it was the service was too slow. However they were very busy and it did not detract from our night. Desserts fab, coffee good - will be back
If I could give no stars I would. This was hands down the worst dining experience in my life.
Normally I wouldn’t complain about the painfully slow service, except for the fact that the food when it came was virtually inedible. I would liken the taste of my girlfriends fillet steak to hamster feed, while my skate lacked any flavor to speak of whatsoever. The only positive was that we weren’t poisoned in the process.
Please avoid the restaurant like the plague, go to Reds or Piaf on
the Hill, both lovely restaurants same area. Please listen and save yourself the time, money and displeasure of this truly terrible
establishment.
Excellent! We had a great evening on Sunday at the Lambourne bar and Grill. It was our first visit and we shall definitely be going back! The food was excellent - most of us had the Roast but 1 or 2 had other options and we were all very satisfied! The service was fast and friendly and we had a great time. The restaurant area is a little too dark but after a few glasses of wine we didn't notice anyway! Nice to have a bit of the village quality down the hill! Go now!
I have been to the Lambourne several times for drinks and meals, and have always recommended it to friends, so thought I'd recommend it here also!
The relaxed atmosphere given by the bar and restaurant is ideal for catching up with old friends, celebrating a special occasion or just unwinding at the end of a long week! The staff have always been warm, welcoming and friendly - from greeting us well, checking everything is to our satisfaction, to wish us a safe journey home. I don't think I've ever left here unhappy and without a satisfied smile on my face!
As for the food, it is always exceptionally good and to a high standard. Any delay in getting the food to us usually comes from us taking so long to order due to the indecision as to what to have! The meat dishes from the grill have always been delicious and I'd particularly suggest trying their Sunday Roasts.
I strongly recommend giving this hidden gem a try. In fact, I have booked up to go back there next week to sample their Christmas menu.
I had a fantastic meal at the lambourne this weekend. It is a great venue for a Saturday night as you have a lovely restaurant and then after the meal can go for drinks in the stylish bar. I had the bruschetta to start followed by the steak which was cooked perfectly. However 2 of my friends had the salmon which they both raved about! The atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed but with a good ambiance and I think it benefits from having the bar next door. I am a big fan of the lambourne and will definitely be back. It's a great find in Wimbledon.
I ate at the Lambourne on Saturday night and for the second time left thinking it was superb. I had the tempura prawns to start followed by the lamb shank for main & my wife had the asparagus special to start followed by the seabass. We both couldn't fault the food & wine - it was delicious. The service was also excellent, and when you take into the account how good the value of it all is we will definitely be going back - I've lived in Wimbledon for 6 years and will definitely be a regular in there from now on
I ate at the Lambourne Bar and Grill that night as well. I never know a manager to be so rude to his customers. The behaviour was completely out of the blue and he seems to have anger management issues which he clearly needs to resolve, before being around customers.
I have never been told that someone was going to call the police on me and I find it very insulting.
Have we been offered to go back from the owner? This is the first I've heard of it. I think I need to make it clear that it will take a lot to get me back in that restuarant.
However I also want to make it clear, the rest of the staff that night were very helpful and should be rewarded for putting up with the duty manager.
Kind Regards
Natalie
I ate at The Lambourne recently also found the manager to be an extremely rude man. The rest of the staff were helpful and lovely. I also found that we had a very long wait for our starters. As a vegetarian, the choice of food was extremely limited and when it arrived, for the price, very average. Risotto was the only vegetarian main meal option and there was nothing on the specials menu that I could have eaten. I also suspect that the mash that I received as a side was instant.
I wouldn't recommend this restuarant for the food, the manager or the atmosphere. I'd recommend you tried one of the many excellent Italians in Wimbledon instead.
I'd have to agree with what's been said below. I too have found the manager to be an incredibly rude individual with absolutely no interest whatsoever in customer service. Add this to the fact there is a serious lack of vegetarian options and this is certainly a place I will not be returning to. Shame.
I should have added that I would only give the Lambourne two stars, rather than the three shown by my previous review.
Our party was really disappointed by the Lambourne. The food was average, and nothing special, and certainly not great value for the price.
However, the real problem was the attitude of the restaurant Manager. Our party chose the Lambourne because of a deal advertised with the Comdy Tree comedy club next door. The deal the Comedy Tree has with the Lambourne is 30% off with showing of tickets or booking confirmations for the comedy club. However, despite showing tickets etc, the Manager of the Lambourne refused to honour the deal, even when the Comedy Tree manager kindly came to try and sort it out. The Lambourne Manger was rude and aggressive to our party, and utterly dismissive.
It was a real shame, as the waiting staff and the Assistant Manager had all been helpful and friendly, and had tried their best to help us. Despite their very best efforts, the behaviour and attitude of their Manager clearly showed us that he didn't value his customers or reputation, and left us all wishing we'd never been, and I'd recommend that others considering visiting this restaurant give it a wide berth.
I should point out though, that the managers and staff of the Comedy Tree were excellent - very apologetic and understanding - and I'd definitely recommend you go there - just eat somewhere other than the Lambourne beforehand!
A group of 11 of us went to the Lambourne for a hen night on Saturday 28/11/09. We had a deal for 30% off the price of the food as we had also booked tickets for comedy at the Watershed a couple of doors down. Unfortunately the manager refused to honour the agreement despite someone from the Watershed coming to the restaurant to confirm that we had booked tickets with them. What made matters worse was the rude way we were treated by the manager, he even threatened to call the police! We weren't a drunk bunch of chav hens (not that this should make any difference), but a quiet group who simply wanted the discount to which we were entitled. Sadly we had no option but to pay the full price minus the tip that the waiting staff deserved. And now for the review that I wouldn't have bothered to give were it not for the appalling way we were treated. We waited 45 minutes for our distinctly average starters (there were no other diners when we ordered) which were followed by our average mains. Nothing about this place stands out beyond the rudeness of the manager. If you want a good meal in the area I suggest La Nonna or Confucius which both have excellent food and good customer service! The only good thing about this restaurant was the Assistant Manager who seemed mortified by his manager’s behaviour and did his best to make up for the unpleasantness.
What a fabulous addition to Wimbledon Broadway! Lovely restaurant in the back (not visible from the street). You can eat, drink and watch sports in a civilised environment in the more relaxed bar so ideal for couples or groups of friends.
Great food and really friendly attentive staff. Definitely worth a visit, or i'd even go as far as to recommend it as more of a "local" for anyone living in the Wimbledon or Colliers Wood area. It's unpretentious and far enough away from the more commercial big name raucous establishments back in the town centre.
Delicious meat/fish/vegetarian options and good wines too. Go there, it's just what the area needs! CH
Tried this new place the other day, and was impressed, the food was delicious and just the right amount (I had the Halloumi main - which had an amaing flavour). What I loved about the place was that it had the right balance between going out for a meal and having a good bar to drink in as well, only problem was I ended up having drinks before and after!
at last - a decent restaurant / bar in Wimbledon! After several years of trekking up to the Village it's great to have somewhere really nice to eat and drink on our doorstep. The bar is stylish with great music. When we first went in we didn't realise there was a really lovely restaurant aswell. The restaurant has a great ambience and is really nicely decorated with a great menu. My sea bass main course was amazing and my husband had the steak and ale pie which was really tasty. Also very good value and excellent service. Very impressed!"
