Three of my friends from work ate at The Lighthouse last week and had a fantastic meal.
The service was outstanding very friendly and not intrusive. We chose a New Zealand pinot noir on the managers recommendation which complemented our food perfectly. All of our meals were delicious but what stood out the most were the seared scallops with morcilla - a fantastic combination of flavours.
I can highly recomend The Lighthouse for excellent food and service.
I went to the Lighthouse yesterday night to catch up with some friends who live in South London like I do. I have to admit that I just love The Lighthouse - the food is always excellent, the staff is friendly but not intrusive and the decor is great. With the nice weather coming up and Wimbledon round the corner, I know that I'll be heading back to the Lighthouse for a few pre or post tennis meals!
After looking around for a restaurant to take my parents, who were visiting, I booked the Lighthouse for a Saturday night on the basis of the reviews here.
We arrived for our table at 8 to find the restaurant not very busy at all, however tables filled up quickly between 8 and 9pm to fill the restaurant by 9.30pm.
The food was superb - some simple dishes with clever twists, well presented and skillfully prepared. The service was faultless allowing us time to relax and enjoy the food. We never felt rushed and there was no pressure to turn around tables quickly.
The atmosphere was very good. Although busy there was no need to shout over the table to make yourself heard and the service never suffered as the restaurant got busier.
All in all the Lighthouse was a fantastic experience and a restaurant I shall certainly be visiting again.
I was expecting an amazing meal at The Lighthouse but was very disappointed. We had three different main courses and we all had salt overload by the end, as the dominant flavour in the dishes was rocksalt. A large group next to us moved their table closer to us so conversation on our table was inpossible.
The Lighthouse staff were apologetic and offered to move us later but we left, or tried to, as they were extremely reluctant to catch our eye for the bill. It was not the evening we were expecting.
I go to the Lighthouse quite often and this is definitely the best restaurant in the Wimbledon area. The food is absolutely lovely, original but yet not over complicated. As for the staff, they are always smiley and friendly.
I recommend the Lighthouse to anyone who has had enough of pizzas, pastas and burgers and who wants a good meal!
I went to The Lighthouse last night with three girl friends and we had a great evening. The food was fantastic and the staff was friendly and attentive, I am looking forward to going back to The Lighthouse!
My partner and I use The Good Food Guide to choose restaurants frequently and have always found recommended restaurants reliable if not faultless however on this occasion, following the listing was a severe disappointment.
The Lighthouse starters we ate were acceptable, although I thought my braised squid was very fresh I thought the lemon grass flavouring was heavy handed. There was a very long delay before the main courses arrived too and they were very poor. I had a duck cassoulet which had dried out in the oven, the beans had dried to a point of indigestibility and the potatoes were over-cooked to oblivion. A forkful of my partner's monkfish was grim too, the fish had been overcooked, was dry and flaky and the lemon grass flavouring had been used to overwhelm it.
The long wait combined with the fact that everything was over-cooked seemed to suggest someone had been overstretched and forgotten it all. The Lighthouse is not good enough for the Good Food Guide listing and I'd be astonished if it is renewed unless we just had an exceptionally bad experience. We coplained about the potatoes and after an exceptionally long deliberation total agreement was confirmed and the three pounds for the potatoes was removed. The complaint appeared unwelcome and no apology was forthcoming when it was appropriate and the apology when it came seemed grudging. we felt it was inadequate compensation altogether.
This place is one to avoid. Total bill was £66 for starters main and mineral water inc 12.5% service.
My wife and I ate at The Lighthouse last week to celebrate my birthday. We had a fabulous evening and I felt I should review the restaurant. We ate great food in a buzzy and relaxed environment. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient. The service at The Lighthouse was some of the best we have had in London. I ate duck livers to start and monkfish as a main course. Both were superb, innovative and full of flavour. My wife had a pumpkin salad to start and steak as a main. Again, both were excellent. We will be going back to The Lighthouse again as we enjoyed a memorable evening.
A special night out was ruined by very unorganised staff and an extremely rude manager. The food was wonderful, but we could not be fairly expected to share our table with another couple! Agreed at first, but upon learning the couple were non-smokers, we aksed for another table so we too could enjoy our evening. Manager refused to oblige, telling us to either stay seated or wait up to an hour for a free table. Will definitely not return - thanks for great memories of our anniversary that night!
The Lighthouse is wonderful, even down to the hippy owner!
The food at the Lighthouse is excellent and not too pricy, with starters at £4-7 and main courses around £10, the ingredients are very fresh and the dishes really tasty. It's a real enjoyment of Mediterranean cuisine with a hint of exotic ideas. I loved it so much I had my wedding lunch there!
My Boss took an important client and enjoyed the food and wine so much that he is now taking his wife and me for a pre-xmas lunch!
Needless to say I'll be back with my own views!
