The ViewLondon Review
Stumbling into a place like this is a stroke of rather bad luck. The VenueLucky Spot Restaurant is a family-owned Italian restaurant and looks like it hasn’t changed its decor in about 50 years. With its dark wood tables and banquettes, dim lighting, old ornaments, it exudes a quaint and charming air rarely found in London these days.
The AtmosphereWhilst the restaurant can look very romantic by evening, there are few romantic couples who come here. The clientele is mostly businessmen from around Mayfair who fill up the little restaurant. The staff is very refined and charming and are always around, ensuring that everything is in order.
The FoodAlas, the food horribly lets this lovely place down. The bruschettas topped with Italian cheeses or tomatoes are nice, but the main courses are dire and highly over priced, even for Mayfair. Spaghetti in tomato sauce is saturated with sugar whilst the meat is of poor quality and badly cooked. The house speciality, however, is the tiramisu, which is made to perfection and tastes fantastic.
The DrinkThere is a nice list of very drinkable and reasonably priced Italian wines which complement the meal nicely.
The Last WordLucky Spot Restaurant is ideal for a relaxed evening of sipping wine over a selection of bruschetta, but don't let the charming ambiance and the equally charming staff tempt you into staying for dinner.
