The ViewLondon Review
The Old Pack Horse leads the herd for some home comfort and unpretentious fun in Chiswick.
The Venue
The Old Pack Horse is old school with roaring fires and dark woods. Large rugs cover the floors with bits of the polished, dark hardwood peeking through. Plenty of comfortable seating are scattered about the space and the rooms are well delineated. Soft lighting creates a comfortable, cozy space.
The Atmosphere
It's very chilled with an older but fun crowd. Newcomers welcome - there is no sense of territory here. The bar staff smile and are in no rush, which adds to the calm oasis.
The Food
The Old Pack Horse has a Thai restaurant tucked away in the back. The menu is appetizing and well-priced with curries and pad thai under 6 quid. You could throw in a tasty starter and still have change from a tenner.
The Drink
Come during their Autumn Beer Festival and sample excellent ales such as London Porter, Mr Harry, or Seafarer's Ale. Scrumpy Jack also comes on tap. In addition, The Old Pack Horse also has a good selection of wines.
The Last Word
This old horse is built for comfort, not speed; but if you're okay with that, you could travel a lot of miles with this old-girl.
