Good beer range and well presented but the staff seemed to think that at busy times it makes more sense to huddle in groups rather than serve the masses. An odd business model.
The 'Beer Garden' may be less like a concrete jungle in summer, if the sun can bounce its rays off the encircling office blocks, but on a wet February night it's not exactly the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
Gents loos were a couple of mils deep in a liquid substance that my brain told me was off cologne, whilst praying I had no holes in my shoes. This was at 5:45pm so they must have had a bad afternoon's trade or the place certainly needed a plumber.
Given the aforementioned Loos were adjacent to the food area this made for an interesting olfactory mix.
To be fair this pub looks good, it's not at all tatty, the beers are fine but the bar staff and the loos could both do with freshening up.
It's stretching it to say there's a garden here! Just a small patio of grey concrete and maybe four small wooden tables, not much larger than a box room and with no foliage!
Other than the seats, you may as well be standing outside with your pint.Bar staff not exactly charismatic, won't meet your eye so will serve blonde tottie who shows up immediately. Nice decor though.
The Phoenix looks like a good place for a drink, but not for eating. Our food arrived late with no apologies or explanations, and was simply poor. A pork chop turned out to be pork back, tuna steak was three thin slices, and winter greens was tasteless cabbage.
And to boot when we complained the manager wasn't really sympathetic. Give The Phoenix a miss for anything except a drink.
Came to The Phoenix for an afterworks do the other day. Beers are good and the atmosphere is pretty chilled. The staff at The Phoenix seem to know what they're doing, which makes a change from some London pubs.
The Phoenix is a pretty average pub (ok, it’s a bit grotty). But seeing as I have spent most Thursday and Friday nights here (for the last two years) I admit I have a soft spot for it (evidently, that soft spot isn’t in my liver).
Tucked away just off Buckingham Gate where there isn’t a huge choice of pubs this booze oasis is tacky and I mean literally tacky, the carpets kinda don’t want to let go of your shoes but hey ho. And yes, they mix nice features like Victorian style engraved mirrors alongside garish neon posters that tell you to double up your cheeseburger for a quid but, you know what, I still like The Phoenix.
