The ViewLondon Review
The Providores is a classy operation that produces delicious food for lucky Marylebone residents. The VenueThe Providores has two rooms, an upstairs restaurant, with cool walls and dark wood touches, and a downstairs tapa room, no reservation cafe. The tapa is a kind of Maori ceremonial cloth, so it doesn’t mean that they serve tapas.
The AtmosphereHip, cool and lazy as Sunday morning, The Providores has a trendy but mostly foodie crowd who come as much for the cuisine as they do for the atmosphere.
The FoodGrown up fusion done properly. The restaurant offers fabulously spiced laksa as well as roast New Zealand venison and a menu full of surprising and delightful tastes and textures. The tapa room is more of an all day cafe, so you can snack on the delicious kikones, roasted maize kernels, or try various plates – the cheese one with a selection of three different varieties are particularly memorable. Red bean and plantains are used imaginatively in both areas and vegetarians will have no trouble assembling a feast. For dessert the steamed ginger pudding and frozen pineapple terrine are a must.
The DrinkTeas, coffees and smoothies star in the tapa room, whilst carefully chosen New Zealand wines star upstairs. There’s a variety of choice depending on what mood you’re in and what food you’re eating.
The Last WordThe Providores is one of London’s top treats - palate pleasing for the real foodie.
