Absolutely delicious food, service was a little slow and food was quite expensive, but a perfect restaurant for a one off luxury meal!
What a fantastic restaurant. I went for a meal as a family get together. We had a mixed starter to begin with which was as tasty as it was presentable! We tried several mains, including prawn, lamb and chicken curry dishes, as well as a biryani. Certainly among the best Indian dishes I have ever had!! A truly exceptional meal in an exceptional venue. The service was outstanding as well - we were very well looked after! I would highly recommend this upmarket restaurant for a special evening out.
My boyfriend and I visited London for the first time and heard from several people that London had some of the best Indian food they had ever had. So, after searching for weeks before we arrived in London, we decided to head to Tamarind our second night there. As soon as we walked in the door, we immediately felt welcome. After staring at our menus for about 20 minutes I think the staff could tell we had no idea what to order!!! Someone - who wasn't our waiter and I assume was a manager of some sort - came over to assist us. He said he would prepare a mixed kebab for us for an appetizer which consisted of lamb, monkfish and chicken - and was ABSOLUTELY DECLICIOUS!!! He then made for us a curry dish which had both chicken and lamb. I haven't had many Indian meals but this was the best Indian I have ever had and was the best meal we had while visiting London for a week (we live in Boston). I highly recommend this restaurant!!!!! If I lived in London - I would be there every week...if my wallet could afford it!!!
what can i say the food here was perfect!! perfect combination of classic Indian with a modern twist. and one that works!!! the soft shell crab, the king prawns and the hara kebab, not to mention their equivalent of a Madras, all had that wow factor. If its great food, great skill, and a chef that knows how to work a creative twist to it - come here! I'm keeping an eye on this chef!
The Red Fort Indian restaurant in Soho is one of the longest standing restaurants in the area, something I didn't know, having only just found out about it. So I thought I'd pop down one evening with my wife to see what it was like.
The starters are a delicious selection of small contemporary Indian treats, everything from spinach patties, to lamb kebabs and chicken tikka bites.
The main course was a delicious chicken curry served with spinach and lentils that has to be one of the best curries I have ever had. It was so good.
By desert I was rather full but I managed to make room for some home made ice creams, including a very yummy pistachio flavour.
All-in-all, we both had a fantastic experience at a true London institution.
I visited the Red Fort recently for lunch having not visited for a few years and they've recently refurbished the restaurant and I think it looks really great, it's got a nice warm feel to it. The food was excellent, and I'm now slightly addicted to their 'bemisal' curry, and I know it's a bit of a strange thing to say in a review, but the bread was delicious!
The only problem is that I don't think I'll be able to eat a nice Indian anywhere else now.
Very overpriced average meal. drinks especially cost a fortune. I ordered a kingfisher beer and it came in a stupid little glass and cost £4. Restaurants at this price have to serve excellent food and it simply was not. you want a proper excellent curry - go to 'The Chutney' in Wandsworth.
I like this restaurant, but having eaten there with work paying can safely say I wouldn't return if I were paying myself.
Food is nice, but certainly overpriced. My main gripe with the restaurant is the dishonesty of the website. The website menu mirrors the actual restaurant menu, with the exception of the prices, which are around 20% higher in the restaurant. This seems a cyncial attempt to mislead people as to the true cost of the meal, stinging them when they arrive.
Therefore, I suggest you exercise caution with this place unless you are prepared to pay over the odds. For better value, try Benares or the Cinnamon Club.
Was very disappointed on a recent visit to The Red Fort. I love Indian food so thought I'd give somewhere new a try, but the service was appalling and the main courses small and overpriced.
Been to numerous Indian places better than the Red Fort. I won't be going back.
