The ViewLondon Review

The Saint has welcomed its location beside St Pauls with open arms.

The Venue
Perfectly situated within spitting distance of the London Stock Exchange building and slap bang in the middle of the new Paternoster Square development with views over St Paul’s Cathedral, The Saint has struck gold as far as location goes. A lovely al fresco area with some well placed greenery and generous up market wooden dining tables is complemented by a range of modern eclectic furniture contemporary furnishing inside including beige leather seats and a couple of individual personalized areas. Large open paned windows ensure the view is pretty looking out as much as looking in.

The Atmosphere
With the neighboring Stock Exchange be prepared to meet some interesting characters from the trading floor to the 26th floor and beyond. There is a certain vibe and energy particularly when the evening kicks off and the City boys and local workers literally kick back from a hard day behind the desk.

The Food
There’s a menu to suit every diners mood and wallet with simple, modern dishes from light bites to platters ideal for sharing. The Cajun chicken nachos are lightly dusted while the Saint fish pie has a creamy and thick layer of potato. The mash simply falls into the fish and combines well to deliver a hearty classic British dish.

There are a couple of platters that will have you easily being tempted in. The Saint platter at around £16 for two people is good value with dishes featuring chunky and wholesome pork and paprika meatballs, soft and fleshy tiger prawn skewers with a hint of garlic and spicy ketchup that will cut through any dish. However if you arrive after 9.30 then you will have to go hungry as this is the latest time that you will be able to have to opportunity to order food at The Saint.

The Drink
Carefully sourced liqueur is the order of the day as The Saint brings in the cold months with wines and spirits that suit the time of the year. For example the new Sandeman Ports have been introduced for a winter warmer. Try a glass of chilled 10 year old Tawny which is an ideal accompaniment with one of their British cheeses. There is also a good selection of wines by the glass featuring a full bodied Cotes du Rhone 2005/06 and a crisp and medium dry Californian Pinot Grigio 2005/06. The beer range is eclectic and features the premium imported German beer Warsteiner beer which is refreshing.

The Last Word
This is more of a place to chill out and kick off your shoes than a real dining experience but nevertheless is worth a sneaky peek.
