The ViewLondon Review
The Salt Yard is a sexy tapas restaurant serving passionate cooking in a good looking room. The VenueLocated near Goodge Street tube station, the restaurant is split into an upstairs, more for the lunch and bar crowd, and a downstairs, which is cosy and nicer to linger in. The decor is dark and sultry black and chrome that’s well suited to the media clientele in the surrounding area.
The AtmosphereThis is a great place for a first date and also nice on a Saturday night with the candlelit tables creating a lovely and romantic atmosphere. It can get very busy at the end of the day but service is always on top of things.
The FoodIn a word, outstanding. The Salt Yard bills itself as a charcuterie bar and that is its forte. The food includes Italian and Spanish cold cuts. The Reserve Jamon is pricey but very moreish and served in abundance, whilst the Italian selection of four cold cuts includes lesser-known meats like capocollo. Try their selection platters, which include a cheese platter and Morcilla croquetas, made with a type of black pudding, as well as more robust offerings of chicken and beef which round out a very well designed menu. The Salt Yard also does seasonal selections like the delicious goat cheese-filled courgette blossoms and a range of other vegetable dishes, such as pardon peppers, wild mushroom and truffle croquetas and the classic tortilla. This venue is probably best for meat lovers, although you could put some lovely dishes together from the vegetable tapas section.
The DrinkThe care that goes into the sourcing of food permeates the wine list as well focusing on creative vineyards in Italy and Spain. They mix a nice Bellini and good martinis, too.
The Last WordIt’s easy to run out of superlatives for the Salt Yard - just go and eat here and experience everything for yourself.
