This stylish restaurant is quietly tucked away in Mayfair, giving it a definite air of exclusivity.

The Venue
The Silver Room is located in Hush, a fashionable establishment with a carefully thought of contemporary design scheme. There is a quiet outdoor area where diners can enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif and a low-lit cocktail lounge with comfortable seating and warm tones. The Silver Room restaurant is located on the first floor and features classic tables dressed in crisp white table linen and comfortable leather seating.

The Atmosphere
It feels satisfyingly exclusive at The Silver Room. The staff are both attentive and professional – expect your napkin to be re-folded every time you frequent the bathroom. The atmosphere is formal but not too stuffy, and this would be a great place to take a date.

The Food
Food here is outstanding and it’s the starters that win the show: the mozzarella di bufala with alba truffles (£8.50) is out of this world; the cheese is impossibly creamy and comes dressed with truffle shavings that give it depth and a seductively nutty flavour. Also amazing is the grilled asparagus with parmesan shavings and lemon (£10.50), which is bursting with subtle flavours that combined perfectly.

For a main course the veal Milanese with wild rocket and tomato salad (£24.50) proves a worthwhile option: the tender meat is succulent and coated in a light breadcrumb and the sharp salad cuts through the rich meat, creating a well-balanced dish. Fish lovers can try the black sea bream (£17.50) which is pan fried with butter – the fish is perfectly cooked and fresh, but a little over-salted. This dish comes with buttered potatoes and olives that again are a little too heavy on the salt side, but all in all it’s a good effort.

To finish, the honeycomb ice cream with hot chocolate sauce (£5.50) is delicious, creamy and rich yet surprisingly light. The apple tart tartin (£6.50) was also a good choice and comes with a freshly-made vanilla ice cream.

The Drink
There are a large range of wines, beers, spirits, liqueurs and cocktails available. Five different red and white wines are available by the glass from £5.75, whilst bottles range from the low twenties well into the hundreds, with choices from around the world.

The prosecco (£26 per bottle) makes a great light choice and goes well with the fish dishes and starters. After the meal, try the limoncello, which is sharp and a nice finish to a meal. The peachcello and raspicello also make good after-dinner liqueurs – but are a little too sweet.

The Last Word
The chefs at The Silver Room sure know how to made great food. Every dish is a surprise – don’t expect simple flavours, expect dishes that will surprise you and make you look at food in an entirely different way. Outstanding.
