The ViewLondon Review
The Three Crowns is a nice gastro pub that ticks all the boxes. The VenueWhilst it’s been refurbished a couple of times, parts of The Three Crowns actually predate Stoke Newington. It was originally built back when Hackney was all green fields and manor houses. The decor is very clichéd, with the usual low lighting, dark paint, mirrors, eclectic furnishings, open kitchen and chalkboard menus, but who cares, it’s a formula that works.
The AtmosphereDuring the week, The Three Crowns does a steady trade, so much so that you should arrive early if you want to guarantee a seat - and there are plenty of them. The atmosphere is generally fairly relaxed and the music unobtrusive. At the weekends there is a DJ and the bar tends to get very busy. Staff seem to change fairly regularly but they are friendly enough.
The FoodFood at The Three Crowns is served apart from the main drinking area in an informal dining area with big rustic tables perfect for groups of 6 or 8 people. The simple modern British menu, available for lunch and dinner, offers a reasonable choice and the prices, whilst not cheap, are justified by the high standard of cooking and ingredients.
The DrinkThis is clearly a pub run by people with an appreciation of good wine. The list is well thought out and combines some reasonably good value bottles at around the fifteen quid mark, with some more expensive choices available for the discerning bon viveur.
The Last WordGood food, good wine, comfy sofas, if there was a garden The Three Crowns would be heaven.
