We hired the upstairs room for a dinner for 40 people and I would definitely recommend this place for anyone thinking of doing the same. The food was very very tasty (38 steaks all beautifully cooked bought out at the same time is impressive by anyone's standards) and the manager was very on the ball, especially sorting things out leading up to the event.
The room isn't huge and 40 is definitely the maximum you'd want in there, and the door to the stairs can be hard for your guests to find (thankfully the friendly staff pointed people in the right direction) but other than that, I couldn't fault the place.
A large group of us (around 30 people) all went out for drinks and dinner here on a Saturday night.
Service was excellent - we had full table service for both drinks and food, and I don't think any of us reached the bottom of the glass before another drink was in place. In addition, even with such a large group, all the food was brought out at the same time which is very unusual even for the best gastro-pubs.
The food was very good, with a fairly small but well thought out selection of dishes on the menu. I had the chicken & leek pie which was superb, and my girlfriend had the rib-eye steak which was a great piece of meat if slightly under-seasoned. The burgers also looked rather amazing with a huge piece of meat cooked to the point in a ciabatta bun, so I think I'll have to try one of those next time.
Just one word on choice of drinks - stick with beers or the more expensive bottles of wine as the house red is a little on the vinegary side.
OkFirstly I'd like to state that I've used the Westbridge as a watering hole for the last 12 months, and I really do not see why these reviews are so negitive!!! The food has never been poor, service pretty much unbelievable when you consider how busy they are all the time. This bar is run by experienced managers and they train their staff to a high standard. But what people have to consider that everything isn't always perfect, as much as I'm sure alot of people would agree (The 100 ppl in there on a fri lunch and night) you have to alow for a little room for miss judgement or error. They are only human. I feel sorry for the people who had encountered the 'Dark side' of the Westbridge and feel there time was so horrendous they have to be so out spoken on this site, but I urge them to return with an open mind cos what they are doing I feel is quite incredible. Londons a big place and here they try to cater for everyone.Everyone has a bad day once and a while. . . .
I have been going to the Westbridge for lunch with friends for a number of months now and just cant get enough of the energetic atmosphere that comes from the staff and customers, there is not enough places like it about anymore. Friday night is manic and may take time to get served at the bar but with it being so popular it's no surprise!
The food is high standard and always fresh and most of the staff are on the ball and will take time to speak to you and get to know you.
Great selection of wine and beers and the bar staff are well clued up on what they have to offer.
A close friend had a function in their private rooms a few weeks back and it was a total success which was down to the staff and the Event Manager Gavin who you can always see on the floor with a smile on his face, if you are lucky to get him to serve you then you are in for a treat.
Good luck The Westbridge but i dont think you will need it.
S.x
Good foodGood drinks menueGood atmosphereBad serviceBad management Only one till not very helpful especially at busy timesTen pound minimum on cards!!!! I thought they sorted out this issue with the banks years ago?? There is one bar staff in particular that runs around serving ten people at the bar at the same time whilst trying to chat up anything that moves and gets all the orders wrong and makes the other bar staff visibly annoyed because they have to clean up after him and sort out his crap management skills plus he is also very rude.Plus no Sport!!!!! and only one TV. Don’t expect a thank you, expect them to throw your change at you and say next.
I've been here a few times, but each time I get to watch the service get increasingly worse. This is not to say that the food in bad, generally it's quite good but value for money seems is not high on the agenda. One of the specials was a 'chicken pie' that at a princly sum of £10 was a small teacup size bowl filled with chicken soup and pastry. I was so hungry after I had to go to another shop and buy a sandwich! The real problem with this place is some (not all) of the staff. The manager (I'm assuming he, short dark haired chap) is the rudest man I have ever encountered. One time he appeared to be so drunk he could hardly pour my beer, and the last time I was in there I was getting yelled at by him for daring to ask to charge £2 below the minum card limit. He was swearing loudly to himself about two kids that were in his pub causing no problems. So in conclusion, if you pick the right day and have the right staff, you might enjoy a decent meal and enjoy one the many deliciuos beers, or might experience what it's like to dine at faulty towers!
Gutted.
I ignored negative reviews and took the family out for lunch there yesterday. It's so frustrating to see a place have so many good things in place, but screw it up, especially with the amont of competition in the area.
The beers and wine selction are spot on, the staff are very friendly and attentive and the produce used is top notch and the menu imaginative. The execution is, however, verging on incompetent. After some pretty good starters and mains - good flavour but overcooked lamb - we ordered three hot desserts. The first two arrived stone cold and the third was not even baked and was still in its wrapper!??! Tipped a meal that was teetering on the precipice the wrong way Im afraid. A shame, as I really wanted it to be good, but in the future I cant justify risking it again with so many good alternatives in the area.
Having only just found this website, it has only shown me that certain people only want to have a moan about places!
I have been a Battersea Resident now for many years & have seen the pub on the end of Westbridge Road change hands lots of times. The Westbridge is the first Pub that I have seen that really takes pride in what it does & having all english speaking staff is a great attribute in London, as the general raule these days is to employ staff from another country that can not speak english. As for Friday nights, it is amazing how busy a place can be & these guys serve you extremly quickly & courteously. Well done the Westbridge & keep it going - thank goodness for Monday nights as you can get in & get a drink a lot easier...
