Back in London last weekend and lovin’it! Zipped right to Trattoria Verdi where the food is always delicious. Verdi is really good value, so my partner and I allowed ourselves several courses, began with the super tasty antipasto misto to share, then had another two beautifully presented courses – really tasty fettucine and succulent steaks – before finishing with exceptionally appetizing desserts chosen from the dessert cart. The ambience was superb, with the pianist in great form, playing all my favourites. Great atmosphere, great food, really great night, highly recommended.
When my mates from Weymouth came to visit I took them to Verdi in Southampton Row, where I know they serve first-class fish specialities. The fare was fresh and satisfying, with select preparation. My mates were really impressed with my choice of restaurant, and we ordered champagne to toast our friendship. Thanks to Verdi for making that evening particularly special.
This is the Trattoria Verdi page, Chisholm, old chap. Il Fornello may be as brilliant as Trattoria Verdi, but it’s on another page. I did throw a party at Verdi two weeks ago, for my fiancée’s (!) birthday. A surprise party at that! The staff was really helpful. We had aperitifs and appetizing bruschetta before her arrival, then a fine avocado vinaigrette, once we had all settled down. That was followed by a choice of their tender Dover Sole, or succulent Tournedo Rossini, and then hearty, spongy tiramisu for desert! The food together with the decorations, music, wine and friends made it a really successful and memorable event. Exceptional food and service from beginning to end!
Choosing a venue for a special meeting can be a delicate affair because you really do have to please all your guests. At Il Fornello they satisfied our requests marvellously. They prepared the room to our specifications. The food and service were impeccable. Il Fornello came highly recommended to us and it did not disappoint!
Decided on an Italian for lunch and as we were passing, we went in.
It was drab, smelly and reminded me of one of those dreadful 1970's style restaurants. The menu was expensive for what it was offering in my opinion, although it was extensive. There was a 20 minute 'lunch special' on the board outside, but our (sticky) menu given to us didn't mention it, only after asking the waitress was it offered.
The waiting staff seemed pleasant enough and when the food came, it did come quickly. It was very average.
My biggest bugbear was at the end with the bill. It said 'service included', but when the waitress came to take our money she asked whether we would like to pay a tip for the waiting staff. The 'service included' was a blatant addition for the restaurant. Therefore, if you dine in this restaurant, I would recommend you refuse the service charge and then reinstate it by giving it to the waitresses instead.
I came across this wonderful Italian restaurant during my visit in London and was just amazed with the friendliness of the staff and the fabulous food. We have been to Italy many times and never found a restaurant outside of Italy as traditionally and wonderful as Trattoria Verdi. The live Piano made our night perfect. Many thanks to the lovely staff and we will be back for sure!
I chanced upon this delightful restaurant on Friday evening and they made me and my 7 guests feel very welcome. The service was excellent and the food was delicious, with the wine list extensive for a restaurant of this size. The live piano playing added to a good atmosphere and a good time was had by all. I have already recommended this place to friends and colleagues and hope to return in the near future.
very disapointed, had white bait to start covered in thick batter, very heavy left most of this, tornado rossini for main, steak was nice but veg were terrible,
was going to have a sweet but noticed the cold trolly wasnt plugged in and things didnt look too good ( hot day), the piano was good but couldnt hear it as the staff were crashing about putting the cutlery away.
the meal was about £30 a head, not worth it, we also needed directions but was told we are opposite the book makers, the staff couldnt tell us any more info, even though i explained we were at the big hotel at the end of the road.
Located on Southhampton road in Bloomsbury, Verdi has been a favorite of ours for nearly 5 years. It has a local flavor and is favored by many Italians living in the neighborhood. Roger, the owner and his staff are friendly and cordial and the food is great. The menu has remained constant, favorably priced and the chef prepares excellent fare. We highly recommend this warm and cozy restuarant to any who happen to be visitng the Holburn/Bloomsbury area for lunch, dinner or just stop by for a glass of wine in the afternoon. Music at the piano bar nightly after 2000. Stop by and enjoy....
I went to Trattoria Verdi with two friends. I thought it was excellent. It was packed on a Sunday evening, which might explain the slowish service. Our waitress couldn't speak English very well, so we ordered in broken Italian - however, that added to the sense that the food was going to be the real Giovanni McCoy.
The Trattoria Verdi style was home-cooking, the fish and veal very fresh, and the bruschetta very good. The vegetables were shared, with generous quantities. I don't remember what the others had, but they enjoyed theirs too.
So, against the advice of several friends who said to never to eat at an Italian restaurant in London, I went to the Trattoria Verdi, because I tried two other restaurants on this page that were top notch.
This was the worst Italian food I have ever eaten. The pizza had no tomato sauce or garlic, and the sautéed spinach had a very strange flavour and no garlic. Maybe I'm spoiled because I live near San Francisco which has hundreds of great Italian restaurants. Needless to say, Trattoria Verdi does not rate highly.
Trattoria Verdi has been going for years, and quite rightly so! The food is fantastic Italian fare, served by friendly and helpful staff.
My only word of warning about Trattoria Verdi is not to go here if you're on a diet! The food is irresistable - even when stuffed I always have to try a dessert too!
