The ViewLondon Review
Trojka is like a step into the east, with Russian dolls, paintings and warm red walls, it has a lively cafe-cum-restaurant atmosphere. It feels Eastern European and the food is good with a range of drinks on offer.
The Venue
The venue is on the main street leading into Primrose Hill, this is an enjoyable area to visit running up to the hill itself or the shops and bars close by. This area boasts a number of trendier venues, but Trojka offers better value and more interesting food. In the summer they have a few tables out on the pavement, which makes it feel like a Mediterranean cafe in a piazza. On a sunny day, the pavement seating, and in winter the large glass windows, offer a more cosy view out of the passers by coming and going. The interior decor is slightly bohemian with a warm red colour and an entertaining mural.
The Atmosphere
A bohemian vibe comes across in the atmosphere, while this restaurant and cafe is visited by a number of locals, writers and so on, it also attracts people out for a quiet drink, tea or dinner. The staff are helpful, taking the time to serve orders and come over, which is part of the charm of Trojka.
The Food
A variety of food is on offer at Trojka, from cafe-like snacks such as cakes and biscuits to interesting Eastern European dishes of Russian, Ukrainian, Polish and Jewish origin. The best thing on the menu for a light snack is the blinis - savoury small pancakes served with sour cream and a fish topping like smoked salmon or lumpfish caviar. Hungrier guests will enjoy the meat dishes and starters, which are particularly warming on a winter evening. A number of dishes like chicken stroganoff and chicken kiev are also on offer, and everything is of a good quality.
The Drink
A variety of non-alcoholic drinks, vodka, wines and beers are on offer. From tea to wine it is good value, and the hot chocolate is particularly nice.
The Last Word
Trojka is the best place to go for interesting dishes with a quiet, laid back, boho atmosphere, and offers better value and is more quirky than other eateries in Primrose Hill.
