The only reason my friend's birthday at Trojka was enjoyable was because of my friends and had little to do with the food at Trojka and nothing to do with the "service" we received. First of all, on arriving we were told that we needed to pay for bringing in our own cake which surprised me quite a bit as I'd never had that experience in a restaurant before, even restaurants much nicer and more expensive than Trojka.
The food when it arrived was satisfactory but not remarkable although a few of the guests did enjoy the dishes, the portions however seemed small especially for the price that we were paying. Then we asked for our cake to be brought out and requested the right amount of candles to be put out and the manager smiled and agreed. So my friend was a bit annoyed that when they brought out the cake (that I was afterall paying for to eat in the restaurant), with about 10 candles short and not even in their candle holders, especially as I myself used to make more of an effort with people's birthday cakes when I worked in a fast-food restaurant.
The Worst thing however was when at the end of the night, me and my remaining guests were lumped with with an additional £17 service charge on top of the £10 charge for eating our own cake, despite the fact that their menu clearly states "no additional service charge." When I queried this I was spoken to quite rudely and accused of having a bad attitude! The manager told me that if I went into any restaurant with over 6 people there would be an automatic service charge! Obviously not any restaurant I have ever been in (and I have been to quite a few)!
Eventually me and my few remaining guests divided the sum between us. What realy put the whole sting into the situation though is that the manager and staff had watched many of my guests gradually going and leaving the rest of us money for their food without mentioning that at the end the whole table would be charged so much for service, a charge that I don't believe
I was quite surprised by some of the negative reviews on here, so thought I'd add my own, as I went here last Friday and had an absolutely terrific meal!
I'd describe the food as no-fuss, simple, yet extremely well executed in an almost like-your-gran-used-to-make-home-cooking style. Delicious and absolute perfection.
Good selection of vodkas and an surprising wine list - Georgian wine is gorgeous - whodafunkit?
When you factor in the price you'd be hard pressed to find such good value anywhere near.
Highly recommended.

my wife and i saw in the new year (also the previous new year) in the troika and we can say that it was very enjoyable both times.
a solo musician played traditional Russian music and everyone appeared to have a really good time.
the food was fine, atmosphere good, and service was well up to standard especially so given that every seat was occupied.
quite a few customers rushed out just before midnight to see the fireworks at the London Eye..it can be easily viewed from the hill in the nearby primrose hill park.
I went there twice recently and was disappointed twice. The (new) staff are not friendly at all, actually quite rude.
We asked the waitress what eastern european beer they had, she said 'I can't read Russian so go to the bar and check yourselves' - wow!
Other customers did not get a good service either. The food arrived quite quickly but the portions were very small.
Nothing special. Disappointing really.
Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room Superb has food with a like grandmother used to make taste. Nothing flash, just good wholesome cooking. It has a relaxed surrounding and great vodka.
Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room is a good place to go. The staff are friendly, the food is fantastic and it is great value for money.
I went to Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room in August and although I found the service quite good I did not find the food quality as I expected. I suppose for someone who has not tried the food in Russia (or Ukraine, Hungary etc) it might seem quite good, but it just doesn't cut it as authentic Russian cuisine.
The food is at Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room is fantastic and the design of the place is fab, however, the service is absolutely appalling.
I recently ate here with a group of 6 friends and we waited around 30 minutes before being offered any drinks. It was another 30 minutes before anyone returned to take our food order. And once our order finally arrived, the plates were practically thrown at us.
I would not recommend Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room to anyone celebrating a special occasion or those taking clients out for a meal.
Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room is a fun place and the food is not too bad either. Wash it all down with some genuine Russian beer.
The only problem is that the service is snail like, so slow in fact, that i have witnessed customers leaving because they have waited so long.
We had lunch at Trojka one Sunday and it was lovely. The Trojka menu was interesting and the food was inexpensive yet delicious, which can be rare! Great location too.
Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room ia an absolutely horrible place. The service is the worst that I ever came across. I would suggest you avoid Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room.
The service at Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room is absolutely horrible. I don't know how any restaurant these days can afford to have such horrible service; no one even gave us a menu, no one even asked what we wanted to order, not to mention the fact that we didn't even get one single smile.
The waitress we had was very rude. The food was ok but everything else was apalling. I would never go to Trojka Russian Restaurant and Tea Room again. It is a shame as it's in an amazing location and Russian food in general is very nice.
Trojka is undoubtably the best cafe in Primrose Hill, the food is out of this world - always fresh, creative and cheap. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. There is no better way to spend a Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning than at Trojka.
I was very unimpressed when I went to Trojka Russian Restaurant last year. The decor is pretty shabby and the food not authentic at all - dumbed down to suit English tastes.
The food we had was poor and we felt rushed throughout the meal. I won't be going back to Trojka Russian Restaurant.
