Tuk Tuk restaurant on Old Compton Street in Soho is perfect for quick, simple, food, but don’t go there expecting a romantic meal for two.

The Venue
Located on trendy Old Compton Street, a bustling thoroughfare full of bars, restaurants, cafes bang in the middle of Soho, Tuk Tuk is a busy little noodle bar that’s perfect for a lunchtime snack or quick bite on en-route to one of the local watering holes. With bright florescent lighting, wall-to-wall mirrors and plastic seats, Tuk Tuk is in no place for young lovers. However, if you’re just after good, fast food at a very reasonable price, this place is perfect!

The Atmosphere
The service is, for want of another word, swift, with waiters getting you seated straight away and coming round to take your order shortly afterwards. Turnaround on orders is no slower, with food arriving at the table within about five minutes of ordering. Don’t go to Tuk Tuk if you want a leisurely meal, but do if you’re short on time and want to be fed, watered and set on your way.

The Food
The menu is varied, and features Vietnamese, Malaysian and Thai food. Prices are between £3 and £6 for side dishes and starters and £4 to £6 for a main meal, with their crispy duck pancakes priced at just under £6. Order the crispy duck and within minutes it’ll be whisked out of the kitchen and cut up in front of you in about three seconds flat. Served with pancakes, hoisin sauce and shredded cucumber, this is a perfect to share as a starter or to have on its own for a main. The Massaman curry is a sizeable portion of this Thai classic – it’s well-spiced with a good amount of meat and tofu, but could do with a few more potatoes and peanuts. Their Pad Thai comes with your choice of meat, shrimp or tofu and the usual garnish of bean sprouts and peanuts. As with all of Tuk Tuk’s noodle dishes, it’s a sizable portion.

The Drink
Drinks are very reasonably priced; a bottle of Singha, Tiger or Asahi beer costs £2.50, house wine is under £10 a bottle and non-alcoholic smoothies and fruit juices are under £3.

The Last Word
Tuk Tuk is cheap and quick. You’ll be in and out in about half an hour, but you’ll leave satisfied.
