The ViewLondon Review
If you're a fan of Thai food but don't want to pay the earth, this great value restaurant near Clapham Junction is worth a visit.
The Venue
You'll find this small Thai restaurant tucked into a parade of shops on Lavender Hill that leads to bustling Clapham Junction. It's an intimate space with Thai-inspired sculptures, paintings and decor for an exotic feel. The music is less authentic but stays in the background, making it a great place to come to with small or large groups of friends.
The Atmosphere
Service here is polite, formal and friendly with a warm greeting on arrival and assistance always close by. The service is also really efficient so if you come hungry, it won't be long before your food is ready. However, you won't feel rushed either so you can spend your time enjoying your food with friends.
The Food
There's something for everyone on this extensive menu whether you're looking for a tasty, classic Thai green curry or something a little more unusual, choosing can be difficult. Starters are priced around £4.50 and range from fish cakes and spring rolls to classic tom yum goong, a hot, sour soup with king prawns, a little chilli and zesty lemon for a winning combination. Follow with a Thai style salad, noodles or rice dishes with chicken, pork, beef, seafood or vegetables. These range in price from about £5.50 to £9 with additional rice or side dishes - try the coconut rice for a sweet and sticky complement to a spicy curry. There are also specials to choose from (about £7 - £11) with roast duck and lamb in exotic combinations. If deciding is hard you can also choose from four set menus - though make sure you're hungry as the portions are healthy but great for sharing.
If you can manage dessert there's a small selection on offer, including ice creams by the scoop, pancake stuffed with fruits (which is more of cake than a crepe with a sweet sponge and fruit filling) and even deep fried ice cream if you're feeling adventurous. Prices range from around £3 to £4.
The Drink
There's a range of beverages on offer including traditional Thai beer (such as Singha) and lots of reasonably priced wines to choose from too. If you fancy a soft drink, you can pick from juices and fizzy drinks.
The Last Word
Whether you want a quick bite to eat or a good catch up with friends, this welcoming restuarant offers good food that's great for sharing and polite service without the expense.
